Speed test on a freshly booted machine is 100/100Mbps ... very often after viewing a youtube video in Firefox, this Speed test can slow down to below 20Mbps which results in a poor streaming experience ... I have a 150/150 fiber connection and the modem speed test doesn't change ... nothing to do with anything downstream ... not running anything else except FF ... always running with the latest up to date version(s) ... things of note: the process count goes up when this occurs ... even if FF is restarted it doesn't resolve this issue ... only a reboot resolves the issue ... when rebooting there is always some UNKNOWN process that needs to be manually terminated before the reboot process runs.

I suspect one of the multilayered (FF appears to open multiple sessions with streaming) processes may be getting widowed and left running and not releasing resources which causes less and less bw to be available ... this appears to occur mostly if I either Fast Forward or try to click forward or backward on a stream timeline suggesting to me that the current timeline may not be closing properly ... process manager doesn't reveal any processes linked to firefox but there are numerous svchost processes which I expect may be involved

Are there other ways/tools to narrow down this issue so the Mozilla team might be able to fix this ... I use FF exclusively but this has become more and more of an annoyance.

My i7 2TB 2.6GHz 8GB laptop is unable to move beyond W7 64b pro but I have had the same experience on a W10 64b Pro machine so very skeptical that this is an OS related issue.

Ultimately if FF kept track of the PIDs it opens it should be able to force them to close if they refuse to close on their own. Kill Process tree ... or ... perhaps provide a log that is user accessible identifying opened PIDs so that a user could manually kill widow processes without having to reboot.

Recently FireFox has stopped saving changes to my saved logins/passwords. I am using a master password. When I exit FF (I have it set to resume with the same windows and tabs open) and then restart, all the saved passwords have reverted to some time in the past where they remain frozen. If I try to login to a website, FF will ask for my master password, then fill in the OLD password. I can update it (replace the auto-filled string with the correct one) -- for example, login to a site using the correct (NEW) password, and then choose "UPDATE" in the pop-up -- and those will persist until I exit. But after exiting and restarting, all the passwords have reverted to the old values. This also applies to adding and removing saved passwords, or editing them manually in the "about:logins" page. For example, I keep deleting the password for a no-longer-in-use account and it disappears until I restart Firefox, then it comes back.

This makes me think that something has changed the ownership or permissions on the file where these encrypted passwords are saved locally and so Firefox silently skips the step to write them out on exit (or update them incrementally as I change them). I do not use a FF/Mozilla account to save them in the cloud, I just keep them on the local machine, which is Mac OS X Big Sur (11.6.8).

I did find somewhere online (on mozilla.org, I *think*) that the file is "logins.json" at the top level of my active profile. But that file has not been modified since 01/15/2023 (over 8 months ago), and removing it does not seem to have had an impact on the problem, so I am guessing that wherever I found that info (that logins.json is where they are stored) was probably some out-of-date post from a past version of Firefox.

I am hoping someone can tell me which file is not being updated so I can inspect its ownership/permissions and then either fix it or delete the file. I am guessing that I can export the list to a csv file, exit Firefox, delete the storage file, then restart Firefox and import the saved csv file in order to fix it -- but I need to know which file it is.

Or, can someone tell me where to look for an error log that might contain an explanation of something going wrong while trying to update my profile on exit? NOTE: the rest of the profile seems to be OK, my windows and tabs are restored correctly on restart, they are NOT frozen in time.

Thank you for any help you can offer me.

Hello,

I'm trying to change some of my old passwords and I want to use the 'generate password' feature in Firefox. However, this is only available on sign up pages and NOT within the about:logins page within Firefox. Is there a way where I could generate passwords from within the about:logins page? Or at least anywhere in Firefox that doesn't involve finding a sign up page to generate a password?

Thanks in advance!

When copying text from a website in one Firefox window, and pasting in a separate Fire Fox window, formatting issues occur

  • Running on Windows 10
  • Firefox, windows/tabs not in container
  • Pasting text from Coursera to Notion.so fails to start text on current line and properly format.
  • Works on Microsoft Edge with no issue, so problem is isolated to Firefox

Attaching images for clarification and comparison. (sorry for quality, quick MS.paint job)

  • after further testing, it appears that copying from Coursera in Firefox to Microsoft Edge also has the same formatting issue, so it seems to be a compatibility situation between Firefox copying from Coursera specifically, and not an issue with pasting to Notion.so
  • appreciate the fact that there are multiple third party factors at play, but the issue is killing my productivity so any help is appreciated!

Is there a main location where Firefox extensions (like Forecastfox) keep their settings? If so, or if you happen to know where Forecastfox in particular keeps its settings, I could use some help locating this folder. I have a settings file I could put in there to overcome some difficulties that the folks at Mozillazine can't seem to help with. I have a problem with Firefox not maintaining granted permissions which forces having to re-grant them, re-authorize/signin etc each time (several times a day). The problem exist on several sites (I think they're related, please correct me if not). eg google workspace suite; I'm using gmail in browser, with Calendar, Drive, Voice, and other elements. Having logged in to gmail (which always forces 2fa even though I check "remember this device"), using the other functions of workspace should be authorized, but if I go to say a folder in Drive, or try to create a Calendar event from an email, a new tab opens and I'm forced to sign-in again (with 2fa). All the google addresses I use are in the "allowed" section of Firefox settings, their cookies saved as exceptions for filtering and saved on exit, and allowed in cross-site filtering. I can't think of anything else to do that would prevent having to sign-in all the time. Similarly with other secure sites such as financial institutions, despite having them bookmarked, cookies allowed, checking "remember this site" etc, every instance has to be re-authorized, re-signed in with 2Fa etc. I only ever use the same laptop and smart phone so it doesn't make sense that neither of these devices are ever recognized. I even get email notifications "detected a new signin on an unknown device" etc. and this happens across sessions, before hibernation or shutdown. How do I get premissions to persist?

Hail:

System Software: Win11Ent_x64 v22H2 (b: 22621.2283) MFF v18.5.0.0

No matter what I try, my MFF keeps crashing at startup. For some reason, it tries to open 2 pages the windows at the same time, which is illogical. I deleted firstly my: sessionstore.jsonlz4 logins.json to no avail.

Then I tried to open MFF through elevated CMD with the command: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe -safe-mode Again, 2 windows pop crashing immediately.

I do not understand why all of the sudden, it tries to open 2 different instances at once. This makes no sense. I am out of ideas, having tried many an option found on Google, but which none give me a solution.

If anyone has an idea, I would be quite darn thankful. This MSEdge crap that I need to use now is not quite my thing.

Thank you. Ke'Ylan

When I select in Settings>Privacy & Security>History, that a history should never be saved and close the Settings tab, the next time I go to Settings, the option is replaced by the setting, that saves a history according to customisation and there's a check mark to always use the Private Mode. Apparently Firefox doesn't keep or save the setting. I learned from https://support.mozilla.org/de/kb/privater-modus that saving a history according to customisation with the option to always use the Private Mode enabled, is the same as never saving a history, nevertheless it should be possible to keep the setting (as the setting exists). How can I solve the problem?

I want to report that spyware named FindItPro which I, foolishly, downloaded. Well, it's a virus, right? But no antivirus can delete it completely. It comes back and you can't find the source. So, there should be some problem in your browser that allows it to live.

I'll send you a website where I got it. [link to suspected malware removed] BE CAREFUL. Virus will be downloaded along with Opera browser or something. I'll send this report also to some antivirus company. Yes, I was foolish, but I hope you will fix it.
