Good day. My Thunderbird updated to version 91.2.0 Since then, when I press the Delete key, the program does not respond to the mouse wheel. When a message is displayed, I use the mouse wheel to move the message up/down. Now, however, there are a few moments where the program does not respond to the wheel. I have to wait a bit or click on the program window to continue.

I created a bug report: Bug 1735988 Opened 6 days ago https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1735988 When press 'Delete' while reading message, Thunderbird window loses focus

What is your anti-virus software?

Try to start Windows 10 in safe mode with networking enabled.

Does the problem go away?

Sorry for the delay. I had to wait for enough messages in my mailbox to try this.

Using Windows Safe Mode the problem was gone. I am now looking to see if I can find the cause of the problem.

Windows safe mode disables anti-virus software, which is most likely the culprit. These are some generic suggestions to avoid problems with anti-virus software.

Create an exception in your anti-virus software for the Thunderbird profile folder, so that the anti-virus real-time scanner will not scan it. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_how-to-find-your-profile

Don't let your anti-virus software scan incoming and outgoing messages.

Don't let your anti-virus software scan attachments.

Don't let your anti-virus software intercept your secure connection to the server.

Remove any add-ons your anti-virus software may have installed in Thunderbird.

Keep it working. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keep_it_working_-_Thunderbird

And last but not least, backup your Thunderbird profile on a regular basis. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_backing-up-a-profile

New information. It was not the <Delete> key that was causing the issue. It was when a message not previously looked at was displayed. It did not matter if the message was read or unread, only that the message had not been viewed before. I selected an unread message. Then selected a different message before the timer flagged that message as read. When I returned to the first message, there was no issue.

Clicking anywhere with the unseen message has no problem. It's just that the program does not respond to the mouse wheel for a few moments when the un-looked at message comes up.

I posted a question on the Norton support site asking how to not have the anti-virus start during Windows bootup. I also described the problem I was having. https://community.norton.com/en/forums/how-stop-norton-starting-bootup

I was told not having Norton start was not an option. They suggested resetting the firewall. And doing a cold boot. Resetting the firewall did not seem to help. So I did a cold boot. Time will tell.
