Firefox 57 is extremely slow to start and open web pages. It takes around 45 seconds to open the first tab, 25 seconds to open the second tab, and then 5 to 10 seconds for successive tabs. I only run 3 to 6 tabs at a time. After 2 or 3 hours, the browser stops working and crashes.

I have this problem on both my computers (one Windows 7 and one Windows 8.1) and none of the fixes I have seen have done any good whatsoever: "prevent accessibility services..." is already checked(set to 1). I have no themes, only 1 extension and 3 add-ons. I've removed all cookies and history. I've tried the remove hardware acceleration option. I've "refreshed" Firefox. I've uninstalled/reinstalled. Nothing seems to help.

I've seen the request to run in safe-mode. What is that supposed to do? It sounds the same as running Windows in safe-mode: not much you can do at that point.

Did they actually have 2 million Beta testers and nobody had this experience? I already know people that just quit Firefox due to this issue and went to Chrome, but that is not an option to me since I'm not a fan of Chrome. Unfortunately, that may be in my future if I cannot get this to work correctly.

What page? Also I don't think FF57 is support for W7 and W8 as well could be wrong but those O/S are too old for FF to work correctly. You run in Windows Safe Mode for a reason and that is to find out if the fault is the program or the O/S. If you don't do this then you will not learn where the problem is coming from.

Try to disable accessibility services in Firefox.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

This is a really really bad answer...

So FF57 auto-updated in an unsupported OS?!? If that is true then I am truly disappointed with a program that has always had my complete support. Don't you think that the program should check the version of Windows it is running under before it updates itself? Should it not have told me that Windows 7 or 8.1 is unsupported and that some other option would need to be performed? That's a bummer, man.

WestEnd is incorrect as Microsoft is still supporting Windows 7 until January 14, 2020 and Mozilla still fully supports it. It is Windows Vista and XP that Microsoft support has pretty much ended for regular users and Firefox 52.X.x ESR is the only supported version getting updates that still runs on XP/Vista.

Firefox 53.0 and later Releases including Firefox 57.0.4 requires 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7, 8 (8.1), 10 as you can see on https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/57.0.4/system-requirements/ and for Firefox 58.0 which will be out on January 23 https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/58.0beta/system-requirements/

The Firefox browser is still likely to run on Windows 7 into 2020 and later even.
