Embedding Livestream In Hubs

more options

Hi everyone, I have a bit of a challenge: I'm trying to host a live event in Mozilla Hubs. We have been trying to find the best streaming platform to use to bring the content reliably into a Hubs instance.

So far we have ruled out YouTube since it sometimes has an API request limit with Hubs that we can't risk, Twitch now has a purple screen each time it runs an advert which also rules it out.

We had some suggestions on Discord to try Vimeo as it was a reliable video provider. We have paid the £75/month annual fee to be able to stream on Vimeo and now they aren't working in Spoke.

Has anyone successfully got a Vimeo Livestream working in Hubs. If so, what link was used - we've found that vimeo.com/event/[id] URLs don't get picked up however vimeo.com/video/[id] and player.vimeo.com/video/[id] links do work in Spoke.

The only workaround I can find for now is to start the livestream on Vimeo several hours before our event starts, then get the embed code (which once live is a player.vimeo.com/video/[id]), and then update the Spoke instance with this specific link before anyone joins. This is annoying since it resets every time we go offline!

If Vimeo livestreaming isn't working in Hubs, can someone suggest a reliable streaming provider without ads that works?

Hi Chris, IEEEVR used wowza streaming service, Blair Macintyre wrote about this here: https://blairmacintyre.me/2020/04/02/completely-online-ieee-vr-2020-was-a-success/

https://www.jwplayer.com works well. The m3u8 stream is under the ‘advanced’ tab, btw.
