I recently made an op-out of all known tracking sites that install cookies like adtmt.com 207.net 247realmedia.com but now I think they persist as supposedly harmless cookies. I just d/l & installed do not track plus & it will take care of tracking, but now I can't delete those dreaded cookies even as opt-outs-- I don't want them to stay listed in the browser, but when I do delete & block them, I go back to "show cookies" option & they are still there. So do I have to opt-in to get them out & then block them all over again as individual sites that I would have to list each one (about 100 right now)??

Did you install an extension that adds such opt-out cookies?

In that case you need to uninstall the extension to be able to remove such cookies.

Hi cor-el & thanks for the help! Well ....now I'm seeing similar comments on just the 1st link you mentioned, but like these 3 they contradict each other: for instance a comment by gracefool on February 6, 2012 ….Use the non-commercial non-bloatware version instead Since version 3, TACO has become commercial bloatware. Instead use Beef Taco (based on TACO 2.0)…. but Developer reply by Abine TACO 3+ is unlike Beef Taco which simply puts opt-out cookies on your computer, nothing else and..... Beware TACO Behaves like malware Rated …by Mele20 on January 31, 2012 •… This extension erased all my custom cookie settings in Fx. It did not tell me this would happen! It set Fx to accept all 3rd party cookies! I have NEVER, in 12 years, accepted any third party cookies and I am not about to start now. It also changed my Fx cookie settings to keep all cookies "until they expire"! That is a HORRIBLE setting which I have NEVER used. I use keep until "ask me every time". It also dumped a ton of cookies into my Exceptions log making it almost impossible for me to use that log when I want to change an exception for a site. I use Ghostery and love it. It never changed any of my custom cookie settings. At the VERY LEAST, TACO should have told me what it planned to do to my cookie settings and I would have uninstalled it

So after reading a few excerpts what is the best recommendations of FF add-ons?

what I did do until I figure out the best method was install do not track--although I don't like having to adjust to every website & a pop-up asking "why did I turn it off" on any site--I don't answer just close it .....but still its annoying thanks for trying to help!

Best is to do it without an extension, then you have full control over what is happening (an update of an extension can come with unexpected surprises).

I let all cookies expire when I close Firefox and have an allow exception for some sites to keep cookies.
You can make a block exception if you want to block cookies from a site. I also leave third-party cookies disabled or you get a massive amount of cookies.

You can inspect and manage cookie permissions for all domains on the about:permissions page via the location bar (or bookmark).
