Why is Firefox 4 "running", not start up; but, running so agonizingly slow?

I have the same problem. It isn't only that it is running slow but when I am typing it is as if it pauses and then the words catch up. Also going from tab to tab there is a pause. I have high speed and it is almost as bad as being on dialup again. How do we fix this? At least before the update it ran better.
