What did you download -- the Tor Browser from https://www.torproject.org/download/ ?

And did it save in your normal location for downloads?

The error might mean that your security software (or something else on your system) doesn't like that browser. However, it's hard to say.

You could try downloading with Edge and see whether Windows likes that installer any better.

jscher2000,

I appreciate your response.

I downloaded from your suggested link in Firefox Browser and it saved in the normal downloads in win 10.

I will try your suggestion of downloading from Edge.

In case this does not work do you have any other ideas?

How did you run the installer after downloading it? If clicking the item on the Downloads list doesn't work, try clicking the folder icon to the right of it to open File Explorer to the download and run it from there.

jscher2000,

I have tried your suggestions. All to no avail.

This is crazy, in the past I had no problems with access to TOR.

The only changes that have occurred are those associated with Win 10 updates from Microsoft. They should have had no effect on this type of issue.

I am hitting a brick wall, unless you have other ideas.

Is it possible the Firefox Browser has a problem? Can I re-install Firefox without loosing all existing data on the website (bookmarks etc etc) and if so, how do I do this?

So if I understand:

  • After download in either Firefox or Edge, the file exists, it's not getting whisked away by security software
  • Double-clicking the downloaded file in File Explorer leads to an error, regardless of which browser downloaded it
