I used to be able to select options such contains or doesn't contain and move the message to my delete folder. For the last few weeks it only works on the specific email address.

When I select my message filter I will normally select the option When From contains blah blah move message to Trash folder. This selection no longer works; I must now use when From is blah@email.com; only then will my message transfer to the Trash folder

i find it remarkable the number of people who try and manage spam with filters. It is doomed, a total waste of time.

However I digress. I have a number of filters that use email address or subject contains and they are working fine. Perhaps you have a bad add-on slect restart with add-ons disabled from the help menu (Alt+H) and see if that helps at all with the filter working.

I'm not sure this is an add-on; it looks like its part of Thunderbird. That said if you know better way to manage spam I'll be all over that.

At the very least you mark the message as spam with the filter instead of moving them to the trash and run them before clasification. That way the real spam filter, which learns from your choices gets a chance to learn what you think is spam.

Unfortunately people think email addresses are a good way of detecting spam, but I see no commercial spam filters that look at the email address, or the country of origin either for that matter. This is because the email address used by spammers is very rarely their own. I have had my hotmail address used by spammers. I guess my email address is in lots of people filters dropping mail from me into the trash. Unfortunate for them if I need to tell them something important. They have pre-blocked me.
