Hi there,

Using up to date Firefox on a Mac, London UK. Recently returned from travel in Japan. The bank cards auto-fill stopped working & Auto-fill does not appear in Privacy Settings (it is not there – no need to request a check please:)?

Spent 2 hours on Mozilla support/community etc. No answers – including 'make a new profile'...(& why - won' that affect history etc)?

Would be very grateful for any help please?

With thanks,

Alex

I assume that it's the same problem as this: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1388431 but there is no solution.

https only mode is not active

browser.fixup.alternate.protocol is set to http from https browser.urlbar.autoFill is set to false

Nothing helped.

I get that this default makes sense but since so many local tools don't use http there should be at least 1 working option to disable this behavior at least for certain sites.

I've been using Firefox for the past two years. I go onto www.homedepot.com all the time. Every day, multiple times a day. All the sudden over the past two weeks, it won't load my bookmark. I type it in manually, it doesn't work. I clear cache, history and restart browser. No luck. I restart computer, still an issue. I go into 'private window', kind of loads and then all the sudden freezes. I use Chrome and it works no problem. Then I search the Firefox support forum to find that multiple other people have had this issue over the past five years.

I mean wow, I use Home Depot to buy materials for work plus a credit card account and then to just have it not work anymore on this browser for no apparent reason is crazy. Then to not be able to contact anyone at Firefox regarding the issue is also crazy.

I mean it's fucking homedepot. I know like 10 years ago there was a data breach with them so maybe firefox is protecting itself from them? But then just have a message pop up saying you can't access the site on firefox. No problem. But to have it be so open ended and a continuous problem over years. That's just dumb. How can I trust Firefox with my information and data if I can't even access a basic site with no recourse for solution or understanding or help?

Hi, the latest update changed what happens when pressing the enter key in dev tools. There's a complete explanation somewhere explaining the motivation, accessibilty and it being more natural/intuitive.

After years using Firefox I can honestly say it isn't as natural as described and the whole process has become very cumbersome. I can understand wanting to provide a more natural experience and give users with accessibility needs a good experience but for me it's not working.

Is there any way to turn the feature off? A setting perhaps?

If not can you tell me which version should I install which doesn't have this updated dev tools UI feature?

Many thanks

For some reason, Firefox just stopped working yesterday. The only way I could get it to work again was to uninstall and reinstall (the refresh option did not work). However, now I've lost all my bookmarks, passwords and customization. I don't care about the customization and losing the bookmarks is an annoyance, but I'd REALLY like to get my passwords back. The installation created a folder of Old Firefox data, but when I open the folders that I think might be helpful, like bookmarkbackups, they are empty. Is there anywhere else I can look where these might have been saved? I did not have a Mozilla account so no profile until now which I just set up in order to access the forum. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi, I have a link in my website that opens a file in another desktop program. The link looks like this: openwith://C:/path/to/file, but after update to the latest Firefox version (v122.0) the second colon from the link is for some reason removed, resulting in a path like this: openwith://C/path/to/file. This is a problem because the path it now tries to open doesn't exist. Is this a deliberate feature in the new Firefox version or is it a bug? If it is a bug will it be fixed? It still works fine in v121.0.

Hello, yesterday (Friday) I downloaded the program Pure Web Browser, which was one of the advertisement on Firefox website when I opened it. Later, I discovered that Pure Browser was blocking many things, because I could not perform functions on some websites, such as getting my email because it blocked me signing in. This happened with several sites.

Could you please tell me how to delete Pure Web Browser, as it is causing problems with the PC. I have tried, and had no success.

Thanks for your help.

Firefox version 122.0 Mac: Sonoma 14.1.1 apple silicon

The problem emerged about a little over a year ago (around September 2022). It started with an installation of firefox on another machine running BigSur, and I guess the problem got ported when I restored a time machine backup on this current machine. I attempted to troubleshoot the issue by following mozilla support and reddit threads but to no avail. I, at the time, settled on monthly time machine backups, but now finally decided to address it properly.

Troubleshooting steps that I have followed:

  • going into the about:config page and changing the places.history.expiration.max_pages and places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages to 2147483647 then to 999999 after reading about how a value too high might be ignored (both values didn't seem to change anything)
  • going into the about:config page and changing the places.history.expiration.transient_optimal_database_size to 85534800
  • removing the add-on/extension manager as seeing that it might remove history for some reason (from a [thread] by IceTemple)
  • In the privacy and security tab, history is set to Firefox will use custom settings for history

Things I suspect might be the problem:

  • I originally used the Chinese version of firefox (downloaded from the .cn website) and reinstalled the international version (from .com) after getting annoyed by the built-in ads. For convenience sake, I ported the profile folder over which might have carry the problem over. That being said, I don't think this problem existed when I just started using firefox but appeared awhile later.
  • result of an update, don't know which though
  • certain extensions (I haven't went through them individually since I installed a lot)

My questions:

  1. How to stop Firefox from doing this ever again?
  2. Alternatives of storing history if nothing works
  3. Why did my troubleshooting steps not work? Is there something wrong with my version of firefox that prevented the about:config changes from working?
  4. If I have to resort to backing up the places.sqlite history file, how do I restore/reintegrate them with current history file?

English isn't my first language so I apologize for any confusion that may arise due to how I articulate. Any help is much appreciated

I encountered an issue which persists since years, it however only happens on some websites...

The Websites where this issue appears are:

https://pixiv.net/ (when downloading images which can only be seen when logged in) https://danbooru.donmai.us/

How does the issue works? (Steps to reproduce)

1. Open any image you want to save 2. Drag and drop the image to your computer into a directory 3. The image is "corrupted" when you want to display it. In fact it isn't even an image, its a HTML File, usually containing a message like "403 - forbidden"

Why does it happen? It seems Firefox tries to re-download the image from the Server while doing drag and drop and usually it does that in a kind of private window? I mean usually the HTML-Files contain "403 Access forbidden" or other messages like "please enable cookies".

I know there are ways to save the images, like with the "Save as..." Dialog. But doing that for a lot of images, which each goes into a different directory the "save as feature is very inconvenient to use.

My question is: Can I just "save" the image which is already in the Firefox cache?

Its already displayed, so why does it even try to re-download it? Especially on slower sites I noticed an annoying long wait to drag and drop images. Seems like a rather bad idea, also just adds unnecessary traffic to the Servers where you download the images from. Beside on some sites with CDNs it just doesn't work and gives you a HTML-File as "png/jpg" image...

I am running Firefox 122.0 on Ubuntu 22.04. When I have a decent number of tabs open, firefox will often randomly decide to lock up completely. GUI is almost entirely unresponsive. I can right click the menu bar area and get the Menu Bar/Bookmark Options/etc. context menu, but it's also screwed up (2 options that are normally there are completely missing). This has occurred for a year or so. Originally, I used the snap version but recently backed up and switched to installing from .deb. Still the same issue. I saw recommendations for turning off hardware acceleration, and that didn't prevent the problem. Running `top`, I see that I always have plenty of memory (at least 10G free) free and worst case 1 thread is being run 100% but the others are hardly being utilized. No crash reports are generated (I will pkill firefox to stop it). Addons and extensions are all disabled.

I recently realized that hitting the windows key with firefox frozen will allow the web page to show again, but it's back to frozen. I keep hitting the windows key, and it will unfreeze just momentarily to show me the current webpage that is up. I can also Ctrl+N and open a new window, and the new window works perfectly fine independent of the completely frozen first window.
