I'm from Germany and I bought my phone from congstar, but I'm using my old SIM card from discoplus (I don't think the provider has an influence on this issue but I will try this with my other SIM card later on).

The current version on my phone is: Firefox OS 1.1.0.0-prerelease Until now there is no update available.

Did you get a Congstar sim with your purchase or do you have access to another sim?

I've been searching our bugzilla database for similar SMS issues and none are popping up. If you have access to another sim you could test with we'd love to hear the results.

Sorry to have suspected Firefox OS for this issue. I don't know why I had this problem, but currently sending SMS is working fine. I think my provider was responsible for that, but I never had such a problem before so I thought it is a OS depending problem. So never mind!

Still I cannot use umlauts with the german layout and a character counter in writing SMS would be nice, but that is another issue. I will mark this thread as solved.

hi, it should be possible to get your umlaute by long-pressing a, o, u (and s for "ß"). unfortunately i have no phone to test that myself, but according to some entries on bugzilla the character counter should jump in once you approach the limit for one message...

@philipp, You are correct. Long-pressing a, o and u will open a drawer with additiona character options. I recently discovered that long-pressing the period will give you quick access to all commonly used punctuation.
