Thunderbird used to respect style-based formatting in MS-Word material pasted into the email body. It doesn't now, why not?

This change happened without warning. As far as I can see, it does respect formatting done with clunky old methods like highlighting and bolding text. Things that don't work include bold/italic, centering, paragraph indents and fonts, i.e. almost everything. I wish to present formatted text to recipients who will not accept attachments, and T'bird used to be great for this. But no more
