Save "open with" files to %temp% instead of Downloads

If i want to open files into an application i do not want the files to clutter up my downloads folder.
this used to work perfectly pre-v91.
i understand that some users were confused where their files went when they opened them incorrectly within firefox.
currently i'm using a python script to clear my downloads folder from the useless files, but i'd rather just not have to bother with it.
is there a way to get the old behavior back? im comfortable going into about:config and/or using a plugin if i have to.

You can do that by tinkering with Settings > General > Downloads. See the thread below (remove the blank space).
