I can receive but not send email in Thunderbird although I can send from the webhost site just fine.

My webhost is labyrinth.net, my internet provider is comcast, and my email client in Mozilla is Thunderbird. When I go to the labyrinth website, I can both receive and send email. Not the case in Thunderbird - I can only receive it. In my outgoing settings it says I am using mail.comcast.net and this is the error message I am seeing when I try to send: The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server MAIL.comcast.net failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your SMTP server settings are correct and try again, or contact the server administrator. Both labyrinth and comcast claim it is a Thunderbird issue. Please help.

Now I am getting the message: An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 5.1.0 Authentication required. Please verify that your email address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again.

Also now I am being asked to supply a password to receive email, so I cannot even receive email, which was not a problem until now.

This verifies that your server settings are incorrect. Get a current list of server settings from your provider and check them against what you have in Thunderbird.
