I have recently installed Thunderbird and it has syncronised my folders and the emails in them.

However there are some folders where the emails and sub folders have not syncronised. Some of these folders show in italics.

Why are these emails / folders not syncronising? And how do I fix this problem?

I have been a long time user of Thunderbird. I run multiple computers which I like to network share/backup Thunderbird under my User/AppData/Roaming profile. I have been running Beta versions on all of my computers, but any change to the beta version on my primary machine causes me to have to make beta updates on all the others so my copied profile works. I have also noticed many issues with printing on the current beta versions. I want to get off the beta treadmill and simply install the current stable Thunderbird version. When I do this on a machine I am unable to get any of my current profile to work. I have multiple email accounts and have everything setup exactly as I want it, so starting from scratch on the stable version and loosing all my saved folders and email files would be very painful. Is there a way to install the current stable Thunderbird version and bring over my profile from a beta version (downgrade)? I would love to see some type of export and import that would work between versions, but that doesn't appear to be an option at this time.

My IMAP service provider has made an urgent request to change to a different server for IMAP and SMTP. The old server is about to be retired very shortly. At present both old and new servers are working. I have updated the Server Settings to the new server name. Server settings show the new IMAP server under Account Settings. However when I look at the properties for Inbox it still shows the old server. Is this a problem? If so, what is the fix/work-around?

Many thanks for reading.

I transferred my profiles from Win 8 to Win 10 without a hitch. Copy/Paste in roaming folder.

I then tried to transfer from a win 7 profiles to a new laptop Win 10 but it does't recognize anything.

I deleted the new Thunderbird folder and THEN pasted the old Thunderbird folder but it still didn't work.

Any thoughts? Any programs out there that do it automatically?

Thank you, CFJ

Thunderbird upgraded to 68.8 on may 7th. I rebooted a couple of days later and tbird can't find my profile or my email accounts or something. It asks me to set up a new email account each time. I've tried deleting the profile dir after making a copy of mine, creating a new profile and copying mine back to the new profile. I've tried this multiple times in fact. I've restarted with addons disabled with the same results.

Currently we are using Thunder Bird with Exchange On Premise. We intend to do a mass migration towards Office 365. Do we have any automation available for re-configuring Thunder Bird client to point towards O365. This has to be Zero Touch and centrally. Can we achieve it, even if its going to be a paid support is fine.

Thunderbird shows me a message containing the following text (which this form - the form into which I type now - appears not to let me quote properly).

Start of quoted text ----

Check out "What’s New" and "Known Issues" for this version of Thunderbird below. As always, you’re encouraged to tell us what you think, or file a bug in Bugzilla

Thunderbird version 68.8.0 provides an automatic update from Thunderbird version 60. If you have installed Lightning, Thunderbird's calendar add-on, it will automatically be updated to match the new version of Thunderbird. Refer to this Calendar troubleshooting article in case of problems.

System Requirements: • Window: Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 or later • Mac: Mac OS X 10.9 or later • Linux: GTK+ 3.4 or higher. Details here.

Please refer to Release Notes for version 68.0 to see the list of improvements and fixed issues.

End of quoted text ---

That text is a verbose way of conveying one thing that the 60 to 68 upgrade does. That information is of little use. For, I want the full change log of what is new with 68.8, i.e. the full change log for the particular version that I am upgrading too. (For, I had 68., er, something, before - the Thunderbird 'about' dialogue now shows the new version number, even though I have yet to restart Thunderbird.) In short: *if you are going to make the user read about changes, actually tell the reader what those changes are.* It is just *obvious* that that is what should happen (for one sees the text when clicking something called . . 'release notes') or at the least it is obvious that you should provide a link to a proper change log.

Also, it is a little bit stupid for a 'tell us what you think' link to lead to a webpage soliciting a *question*.

Hi,

unfortunately, Thunderbird forces the user two choices : seek update or automatically update. Everyday, Thunderbird annoys me with a pop-up telling me it could not update and that I should visit Thunderbird website to download a potentially new update. I do not want to do this every day. For a specific reason that I know, Thunderbird is prevented from checking for updates, but I do not want to change my general security config on my OS for just one app. So, my question is where is this little third button that states: “manually search for updates”. I understand it can be laughable given the wild wild web. Why someone would not want Thunderbird to search for automatically update after all? Because, sometimes, updates do break things, at least temporarily (e.g. remember Firefox and certificates) and I do not want to belong to the first batch of users to whom the update is going to be released. Also, there are users (maybe very slightly more advanced users, just a tiny more advanced, only slightly more like me) who do NOT want to be babysitted constantly and are able to take their own security without the constant reminders “please, do this, do that, your IP has changed, check your e-mail, please, enable 2-fa; etc.

Even more complicated: where's the hidden settings under MacOS platform to disable once and for all this update search function. I went to Application Support folder, but found nothing)

Thanks for your help, Raf

I've downloaded Thunderbird, which has downloaded all my mails, replicating my different online folders. At the moment it just copies everything I do online, including deleting in Thunderbird whenever I delete online. How do I fix it so Thunderbird just retains everything on my computer and adds to it each time i log on, even though I've "cleared out" my online mailboxes? Do I have to create the whole folder system again as "local files" and transfer them, or what? Sorry if this is an obvious question but I'm near my online data limit and don't want to lose whatI've already downloaded. Any help appreciated!
