Cox.net is transitioning from in-house e-mail to e-mail handled by Yahoo.com. Our cox.net addresses are supposed to (and apparently have) transitioned so that they still work, but are processed through pop.mail.yahoo.com.

It is my turn to be transitioned and I have been successful in doing so to the extent that I can send and receive using my address(es) ...@cox.net through Yahoo web mail and on my Samsung phone. I have not, however, been successful in either sending or receiving mail using Thunderbird on my desktop.

I have been successfully using Thunderbird with POP settings for years with four different cox.net addresses. [I'm currently just trying to get two of them working -- unsuccessfully.]

I am using Windows 10 on a Dell desktop. I am using Thunderbird 115.9.0 (32 bit). I have reset the POP and SMTP settings as directed by Yahoo. One of the errors I receive is: "Error with Account .... Sending of password for ...@cox.net did not succeed. Mail server pop.mail.yahoo.com responded (SYS/TEMP) Server Error - Please try again later." It then asks me to retry or enter a new password. I have checked the passwords saved by Thunderbird and they are correct.

I suspect, that with all the Cox accounts being newly routed through Yahoo servers that I am not the only Thunderbird user experiencing this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is it likely to help if I uninstall and reinstall Thunderbird? Would I loose all my mail, etc. if I did that? [I did the delete and add account in my phone and that was successful, but I wasn't concerned about losing mail there as it is all on my desktop.]

Thanks in advance. billb1111

I have Thunderbird 115.9.0 64 bit on the 2nd latest version of Ubuntu Linux and by second latest I mean it is still supported even though there is a new version available. Several months ago there was a password problem with my internet account preventing me from logging into my internet/email service and all my devices could not send or recieve emails. I changed my password on my cell, my Windows 10 computers and they worked fine. My Thunderbird on my Ubuntu on the other hand rejected my password and I also checked all of my port and server settings with the help of my internet service provider tech support including comparing settings from other email clients. Still no password being accepted. My internet/email service provider tech agent suggested removing my account from my client and reentering it and this worked.

Several months later I changed my main email passwords again on incoming mail and outgoing mail servers on my account, verified my port settings are correct, which they were including the type of security and protocols used. When I select the desktop icon I get prompted to enter my main password and hit enter and the window keeps reoccurring as if it has rejected my password. I select cancel allowing me to enter and again clear and reenter password and again it is rejected. I removed my account (I think) and go through the motions of reinstalling my account and get a pop-up indicating the server already exists which puzzles me. Ports, security settings, password are all correct and tested on other devices. I can even use a browser and log onto my internet service providers server and access my account and my password works but not on my Thunderbird. Should I consider uninstalling and then reinstalling my Thunderbird on my Ubuntu? I think by mistake I deleted all of my emails BUT I have selected IMAP so my emails I want are still on my service providers server. IF I uninstall and reinstall how do I save my contact list. This I Inoticed is still intact. Suggestions please?

All of our "read" emails, --from all of our accounts -- have suddenly disappeared. All of the folders and subfolders are still present. We still get new email, but as soon as we read it, it's gone. We have had these same email accounts for years and have not made any changes. In Account Settings --> Synchronization & Storage --> "don't delete any messages" is checked. "Read" messages are still on our server.

So, 1) Why did this happen? 2) Is there any way we can get our messages back in Thunderbird?

App. 60 mails were left (i.e. not archived) in inbox Tried to archive one file afterwards from inbox. OK, went correct to 2024 in the same folder as all the others. However, this mail was visible in Archives, 2024 in TB. I moved it back to inbox without any problem but strangely it still also is in Archives.sbd, 2024! HOW CAN I GET THE EMAILS (app. 3,000) FROM Archives.sbd, 2024 BACK TO TB?

I've provided all of the other data, no problem. But the <Your login> field has only "YOURDOMAIN\yourusername" in it as a format hint. The field carries an Info symbol, but it's greyed out.

There are many possible domains, e.g. microsoft.com, office365.com, outlook.com, each with possible 3LDs, and the domain-name of the organisation that provides my account.

The most obvious (MYORGDOMAIN\Roger.Clarke) gets the error-message: > Authentication failed. Please check the username and password. (I checked, and they're the same as I use for a webmail login there).

Leaving it empty gets this error-message: > Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password. (That about covers the possibilities then ...).

Windows 10. Thunderbird 115.7.0 32-bit. Email address is at hotmail.com, so it's an old account that's now at outlook.com This is a personal email account not related to any business nor to Office 365 or anything like that. I have had the account for decades.

Thunderbird quit working with my hotmail account this morning. It goes into an Invalid Password Loop, even when I respond with the correct password. I can logon to my hotmail account just fine with a browser. It's just not the same positive user experience as using Thunderbird.

I'm sure the problem must have to do with OAUTH2.

The outgoing SMTP server is outlook.com Server name is imap-mail.outlook.com Port is 993 Connection security is SSL/TLS Authentication method is Normal Password

Changing Authentication method to OAuth2 does not solve the problem. Instead I get a popup error message that's very hard to capture that is to the effect that "The imap server imap-mail.outlook.com does not support the selected authentication message". It's like I need to use a different imap server. I found one site that said to use outlook.office365.com but I don't really use office365. I may give that a try anyway.

I don't see any other account settings that seem relevant

I want to use thunderbird both for my personal mail and work mail, but I don't want to carry my work with me 24/7 so I don't want to be bothered by email notifications or "unread messages" indicators when I'm off work.

Right now it seems like I can only disable these things for the app as a whole, not per account, but I do want those notifications and indicators 24/7 for my personal account. Are there any more advanced controls for creating rules for how and when new and unread emails are notified to me on a per account basis?

I'm using the following Thunderbird extensions (latest versions): - Compact Headers - Send Later - Mailmindr - Quicktext

Have five email accounts, only 2 are set to check mail at startup. A change has taken the ability to click the down menu in the Get Messages icon to show all the accounts for a individual account check. With this change , if its intentional, it allows no obvious method to check these seldom used accounts. Checked the customization for the old "Get Message" with the down menu so I can return this feature and its not shown as a choice. If this is the intent then the "Account Settings" "Server Settings" to "Check for new messages at start up" which can be either checked or unchecked needs some attention. The missing down menu allowed these unchecked accounts to be checked only by selecting this down menu allowed clicking any of my 5 accounts account, and if memory is correct a choice to check all accounts.

If this is intentional change, how do I check individual accounts that are unchecked as still allowed in the settings.

Should this "Get Messages" with the down menu feature be returned or the "Account Setting / Server Settings" be changed to not allow a choice but require all accounts to be checked at start up, after a period of time, or by clicking "Get Messages" again to get newer messages all the time rather then by choice.

I'm requesting it be returned as a choice in the Customization items as I see no way to now check accounts with my current Account / Server settings as separate actions.

I have three different computers that I can use Thunderbird to access my hotmail account. All three computers can have the exact same server settings. One computer refuses to send emails unless I cancel the send and immediately resend.. Thunderbird ver 115.10.1 (64-bit) Windows 10 Home Ver 22H2 IMAP Mail Server outlook.office365.com Port 993 Connection Security SSL/TLS Authentication 0Auth2 Outgoing SMTP Server smtp.office365.com Port 587 Connection Security STARTTLS 0Auth2 Take Note All three machines can have identical settings listed above or various changes like Normal Password instead of 0Auth2 and/or an Outgoing server can be smtp-mail.outlook.com with normal password or 0Auth2... One computer must be cancelled will sending and when resent, it goes... no problem...immediately. If I don't cancel and wait, for it to send on the 1st attempt, it will eventually timeout on the outgoing server. Then I might have to reenter a password. Very annoying. I have been doing this for years. It is my workaround....

Hello, I very recently bought a new laptop and I am trying to set up Thunderbird to access my mail server. I still using my old machine so I have used it to copy the POP3 info etc. But Thunderbird doesn't like anything I've entered. It initially came up with "GoDaddy" connections which I have no connection with at all, so I set up the incoming and outgoing manually copying, exactly from my old laptop, but no success. This is really frustrating. Any suggestions?

I have Thunderbird 125.0 (64-bit) on Win 11.

Everything works perfectly, BUT..

If I select File->Exit then it just goes into not responding mode and I have to end task to restart TB.

If I just click X then the window closes but If I click my thunderbird icon to bring it back up, nothing happens.

I often have multiple TB processes which I have to kill.

On system restart, everything is fine unless I try to exit TB.

In case it matters, I have private ISP email acc, and 1 hotmail and 1 gmail acc.

Any thoughts appreciated.
