I have set the synchronization target to be 90 days inside the account settings.

Upon compacting the folders and restarting thunderbird, the messages outside of that range is still in their respective folder.

Is there a way for me to delete the ones out of range, but keep a remote copy on gmail?

Hello! I want to make a new totally clean installation of TB to get rid of the grey/italic folders issue (the folders and it's structure is correct on the IMAP server and as well display in K9 Mail on my mobile and none of the solutions posted here, such as renaming the folders etc. did work). What I did so far: - Uninstalled TB - Deleted the profiles folder in the user folder (both in "local" and "roaming") - Deleted remaining TB folders in "ProgramData" and "Program Files (x86)" - Emptied trash bin - Restarted

But... After installation the old folder incl. the grey/italic folders appear again.

Does TB store under different names the previous profiles? How do I force TB to load totally new the folder structure as it is on the server?

Any hints are mostly welcome!

Best, Wolfram

TBird 102.2.1 - just updated . . . and discovered that doing so caused several folder modifications I had just completed in the previous version disappeared. Really, really helpful . . . not.

Was in the midst of copying email files/messages to an external drive; 3/4 of the way through, in checking the "finished product" over there on the external, I discovered that -- regardless of what date the email had originally, TBird was changing all of the message dates to today's! That's really, really useful . . . I guess . . . in someone else's reality. My reality is that when I'm backing up email messages I have a reasonable expectation that they will each accurately reflect everything associated with the original(s).

So: How does one tell TBird to leave the original date(s) alone and copy the message(s) intact?

Guess it's now looking as if I will have to start this process all over -- and attempt to not seriously begrudge a program that makes such an unwarranted and unexpected change . . .

Thanks for any helpful information; appreciated.

Thunderbird used to ask me for my password on incoming emails but this has now disappeared and mail is automatically downloaded when I open Thunderbird. How do I re-instate this? I have version 91.10.0 on a Mac and have a POP3 account. I am still asked to enter a password for sending mail and would like to keep this feature.

I upgraded from Thunderbird 91.12.0 to 102.1.2 one week ago. Windows 10 21H2. I have many Saved Search folders. Since I upgraded when I click on any of them, no results (messages) are listed. If I right-click any of them, and left-click 'Properties', against 'Select folders to search' it now states '0 folders chosen', which is unexpected. I can fix this by manually re-choosing the folders for each one, but this shouldn't be necessary.

I did make a backup of my Thunderbird profile before the upgrade. I tried restoring one of the *.msf files from this backup to see if that would resolve it for the one saved search folder...but no.

Has anyone else come across this problem, and/or know a solution?

Trouble with Thunderbird 102.3 installation and migrating profiles to a new Mac

I have been a happy Thunderbird user for many years. Currently I am trying to migrate my three Earthlink e-mail profiles from an iMac (late 2013) running macOS Catalina, … (funda kabanzi)

I have been a happy Thunderbird user for many years. Currently I am trying to migrate my three Earthlink e-mail profiles from an iMac (late 2013) running macOS Catalina, to a Mac Studio (2022) running macOS Monterey. My Thunderbird profiles use POP for incoming mail. I have always preferred to store my e-mail on my computer, not on a server, and that's still my preference. I have a lot of history in my Thunderbird folders, and I don't want to lose all the e-mail I have stored in them. So I'm afraid to try to switch to IMAP, even if I wanted to, which I really don't.

On my old iMac, Thunderbird is on version 102.3, and it looks great! So on my new Mac Studio, after downloading Thunderbird 102.3 but not opening it, I set up Profile Manager using Terminal (in Finder/Applications/Utilities), and created my three profiles exactly as they are on the old machine. Then, on the old iMac, I went to Library (via Finder) and copied my three profiles to a flash drive. I connected the flash drive to the new Mac Studio, where I copied and pasted the contents of each old profile into their corresponding new profiles. So the new profiles have new names, but the contents have been replaced by my data from my old Thunderbird profiles. This is the standard procedure, and I was very careful to do each step correctly.

Well, everything is there all right, but sadly, it is all so unbelievably tiny that it is impossible to read or use. I experimented with Zoom and Font Sizes in the View menu in my Thunderbird profiles, but the results were still very unsatisfactory, and the changes refused to persist in individual e-mails. The whole Thunderbird installation looks like it doesn't fit properly on the Mac Studio, and I can't figure out how to make it bigger. I went to Settings in a Thunderbird profile and tried increasing the font size under General->Language & Appearance, but this had no effect at all. I have also made sure that my Display settings on the new Mac Studio match my Display settings on the old iMac, but this doesn't make any difference to Thunderbird either.

I can't understand why version 102.3 looks so perfect with my three profiles on my old iMac, where everything is large and readable and fits properly, but not on my new Mac Studio! Obviously my profiles are compatible with the latest Thunderbird version, since they work fine on the iMac.

Oh, and by the way, BEFORE doing all of the above, I had initially used Apple Migration Assistant, which worked great for all my Apple content, but NOT for Thunderbird. So I uninstalled Thunderbird and deleted its profiles on the new Mac Studio, and started over again with a new install, as described above. Sadly, the results were exactly the same in both cases, whether I used Migration Assistant or downloaded a clean install of Thunderbird and manually transferred my profiles. Either way, the appearance of Thunderbird with my three profiles on my new Mac Studio is practically microscopic.

Does anyone understand what is going on? Can anyone tell me how to fix my Thunderbird? Or can you tell me what I have done wrong? I have always loved Thunderbird, and I'm brokenhearted!

Hi there, After downloading and installing the new Thunderbird 102 onto my 64 bit PC, I am using imap, I have found that although all the email accounts appear there and many folders or sub folders missing. As well as the content of some folders that appear but are just empty.

For example, on my main email they Inbox appears but is greyed out and shows none of my current emails but with the sub folders they are there and the emails are there.

So: Account - me@mydomain.com Inbox - greyed out and no content Drafts - working fine Sent - working fine Spam - working fine Sub folder A - working fine Sub folder B - working fine

It’s as if it just hasn’t subscribed to the Inbox. Although that doesn’t make sense if the sub folders are there… I can send emails fine. They appear with my footer that is set up in the account and they appear when I log into webmail and look in its inbox.

I tried, using TB, to move an email into the inbox, to try and prompt the activation of the folder but as it is greyed out in the move function as well it cannot be done. I have looked at the account settings and cannot see an issue, it still has the imap address to get the emails.

Second example

Account - Me@mydomain.net No folders :(

On several other accounts I can see the account but with no folders at all below them.

When I installed it there was nothing else running, there were no issues displayed and it was, as with every other update of TB since I started using it back at the beginning, quite fast.

I made no changes to settings after install as I wanted to look around and see what had changed. I did notice that despite it being an update and is used offline that it took quite sometime to download emails in several folders. I figured it being an update that it the locally stored msf(?) files that were already on my PC.

This is really quite frustrating and disappointing as although I can use webmail it does not have as friendly user interface and accessibility as an email client and I do not use Micro$oft products.

Is there anyone that can assist with this?

Thanks for reading this and I will also thank anyone that can help.

I am trying to move Gmail accounts from an old Outlook to Thunderbird due to new OAuth2 rules but can't get the accounts set up in Thunderbird on Windows 10: I installed a fresh copy of 31.8 and Imported emails and address books from Outlook ok. I then installed (upgraded to) 91.10 and tried to set up my existing Gmail account: I type in my gmail username and password and choose POP3 then Done and the Google Credentials window pops up. I enter my email and password and it asks to give Thunderbird access so I choose Allow. The Account Setup screen then says Checking Password and Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password... If I choose Done it just goes in the same loop. If I Configure Manually I can see all the info and pop/smtp servers are correct and using SSL/TLS and OAuth2 but when I try to Get Messages for the account it just pops up the Google Credentials window and after I put in the username/password again no email is downloaded. There is never anything stored in Saved Passwords either so presumably the OAuth2 token is not being saved? I have tried: Reinstalling Thunderbird (including deleting any leftover Thunderbird folders in Programs and User Data) New profile Ensured Cookies are all allowed Added https://accounts.google.com as specifically Allowed exception In my Google account it says Thunderbird IS allowed access (it adds another allow access entry every time I enter the Credentials) Disabled antivirus (Kaspersky) My Gmail username and password are 100% correct - I can log into webmail using them no problem. I have tried to set up 3 different Gmail accounts and all fail with same errors. Hope you can help as I am completely stuck now, thanks

For reasons that will likely never be known Thunderbird stopped yesterday. Clicking on the icon showed the spinning icon for a second or two and then ended without the application starting. It had been running flawlessly for several years.

I checked with task manager, nothing from Thunderbird. I restarted. Same problem.

So, I found and installed the beta version which is working fine but I've lost my address book and message filters.

I can re-create the filters easily, but would prefer not to have to re-create the addresses. Is there a way to find the old address book(s) and use them?

Thanks -dmd-

i've tried deleting the global database and reindexing, but that did nothing.

Using Macbook Air M1 with Monterey.

I've spent most of the night trying to find a solution to the blank, unresponsive screen since TB updated. No folders, accounts, messages, etc. *(see attached image). I'm not the only one with this problem, but in all the "solved" discussions of this problem, none of the solutions have worked for me.

I've toggled between themes, uninstalled/reinstalled TB, checked all settings and configs, run in troubleshoot mode, cleared the caches... Nothing has worked.

I'm able to create and send new messages from this blank page, and I receive them on my other devices. So, it would seem my configs are fine. Kind of lost at this point. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

All the posts suggest

 Please see https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/all/

but that just offers the latest version (current 91.9.1) which won't run on El Capitan.

Other posts tell you to look at

but that only gives you the release notes for the older versions, without any download links.

How do you get the older versions?
