Hello, Recently my GPG keys stopped working in Thunderbird. I didn't make any changes. From one day to another Thunderbird started not recognizing my key pair. Additionally, my private key has disappeared from my computer, it is not in the settings folder it should be in. When I access the Thunderbird Profiles folder I see that there are files named as corrupted "Secring.gpg.corrupt". See the attached image. What is the step-by-step to solve this problem? I would also like to know if anyone knows what may have caused this type of problem.

Thanks!

There is no mystery to what's happening here. Programming 101: a security exception doesn't get reset every 2 or 3 passes unless some malicious or incompetent programmer set up a countdown loop to reset it. And who would do that kind of thing to users unless some malicious jerk wants to pressure the users into fighting his or her political programming battles with other net entities? I turn 77 this month, and last year had a tumor removed from inside my spinal cord that, while slow-growing and essentially benign, caused horrific pain. People my age and condition save our energy for things that really matter to us. That doesn't include Lilliputian battles over which end of the egg to open. So suck up your egos and resolve this among each other.

Hi, Matt, thanks for replying so quickly. All contents of my old computer have been transferred to the new a couple of weeks ago and the old one emptied for resale. As mentioned, all seemed to be ok with the new computer for the first several days. I have used Thunderbird for a number of years on the old computer and never had the slightest problem. I've hired a technician, a fine one, but he cannot understand the problem either.

Dear MOZILLA Support, good morning.

I'm having the problem in subject by end of january, when the company i'm working as consultant gave me a new company e-mail and i found more than one time to settle it in thunderbird.

This cause i need to register in my hard disk (Apple MacBook Pro 2012 or around) all the communications for question of privacy and confidentiality.

All the suggestions i found on the network with a research using our Mozilla Firefox, were not utile cause NO ONE TIME i reach the result.

I ask gently and humble to give me the best possible help.

Thank You so much for the attention

Vincenzo

Thundebird is an e-mail client i.e. send and receive mail over the internet.

Over that last decade or so Thunderbird has been making endless upgrades adding pointless additions like Web browsing.

A few days ago I deleted an email account after which, when I re-opened Thunderbird to send an e-mail (i.e. from an E_MAIL client), it searched for the deleted account couldn't find it (gee I wonder why) and then for an "unknown" reason couldn't send an e-mail.

In fact, merely deleting an account has rendered Thunderbird a useless piece of garbage. (Oh sorry, I can still search the internet although I still don't know why I'd use Thunderbird for that?)

So, I looked for help (using a web browser not an email client) on the internet and the only (useless) help was from 2014. (So it's an ongoing fault for a decade.)

My question is this: Why would Thunderbird spend the last decade programming pointless upgrades when you haven't even got to the level of being able to add and delete accounts, send and receive e-mails with YOUR EMAIL CLIENT?

My recommendation is:

Keep the current version of Thundebird as "Thunderbird Plus" (a multifunctional e-mail client that looks impressive and does everything other than sending and receiving e-mails)

AND

Create a new Version called "Thunderbird" that can be used as an e-mail client (that can actually add and delete e-mail accounts, send and receive e-mails that is designed for people who want an e-mail client and not a hobby tool to while away the hours on pointless activities superfluous to an e-mail client.

OR

Before adding another pointless upgrade to the current version, fix it so it functions as an e-mail client (unless you'd prefer to retain a major flaw for another decade.)

If this upsets your "free" sensibilities, consider: There's no point in creating something, even for free, if it simply cannot meet its primary function. Thunderbird version one is better than what is provided today (that's why I started using it). Well done the original designers.

duplicate of /questions/1407076 thread.

I have noticed this for I think more than a year now. I get a phishing (shouldn't phishing be spelled pfishing (p for people), maybe it's me) email for a fake UPS delivery. I know it is fake and I click on forward, select the email address"fraud@ups.com", type in: "PHISHING - PHISHING - PHISHING" in the subject line and in the body of the message then click on send. This is one of the message I get: Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: YaFjpYS1t77IDYaFopDMr1 internal error AUP#EML-038. Please check the message and try again.

What have the cracker/hackers done to the message so that I cannot forward it to security people?

Thunderbird won't accept certificate exceptions; TB 102.5.1 (64-bit), Win10

If I remember correctly, I opened an account with Network Solutions in about 1998 for aquarien.com. In all that time, I've had few problems with NS, and trust it. A few months ago, I transferred my e-mail accounts with Wild West Domains LLC to NS to avoid the switch at WWD to Microsoft Outlook. But my e-mail for aquarien.com has always been with NS. And since about then, TB has been harassing me every third or so sign-on with certificate errors claiming that NS is not a "legitimate ... site" which provides "invalid information", demanding that I "(checkmark) Permanently store this exception" to "Confirm Security Exception". But no matter how many times I tell it to do so, TB keeps harassing me. It refuses to keep its word about "Permanently" storing "this exception". I'm a retired senior living in HUD retirement housing, who aged out of Social Security Disability Insurance at about 65 onto regular SS income. I don't know about certificates and care less. I trust NS, one of the oldest hosting services, to do the right thing. When I raised this issue before (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1397223), I got two guys snarking and talking down to me, addressing not my problem with storing the exception "Permanently", but harping on the "cheap" NS certificates and demanding in so many words that I serve their interests. It's as ethical and appropriate as parents using their kids to fight each other. KNOCK IT OFF Settle any disputes you have with Network Solutions like real adults, Permanently store this exception, and leave me out of it.

TB 102.5.0 (64-bit) on Win10 I'm getting repeated notices that my e-mail accounts with Network Solutions don't have a proper "certificate" when I try to send an email. I get a popup window stating so, and asking me to "permanently" choose the exception. It doesn't matter how many times I tell the fool thing to accept the exception "permanently". I still keep getting the notice every few times. Since the glitch is not consistent, I don't have an image of one to put here. Not only that, I have to send the email twice after doing so. TB refuses to send the email the first time after choosing the exception, but allows it the second. I don't know anything about "certificates" and am sick of getting popup notices about them. I doubt that the problem is with Network Solutions email accounts. This reminds me of years ago, when I tried to upgrade to WinXP. It kept interrupting my work to give me popup security notices that I didn't understand and couldn't do anything about. If I remember correctly, I took it back to Sam's Club and replaced it with Win2000. Problem solved. Never mind that XP was supposed to be better. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I find it interesting that after criticizing Mozilla Thunderbird on Twitter, the very next day my laptop seized up and required 2 restarts, then Thunderbird lost three new emails on one email account and started downloading 940 old messages from my Network Solutions mail server. That is some vicious, partisan push-back. Are you all based in Russia? I feel so blessed that religious certitude no longer requires that we heretics be burned at the stake.

I am working with Thunderbird 102.8.0 on Linux Mint 21.1 Vera base: Ubuntu 22.04 jammy.

Maybe you don't need all that - I'm brand new to all this and don't know much at all! I don't understand, for ex. why it doesn't say "Cinnamon" up there, since that's what I'm using for Linux Mint, but anyway...

I use Protonmail, and have finally gotten the protonmail bridge to work with Thunderbird. I have exported my contacts from Protonmail's webmail as a vCard. I saved the card in my downloads folder and I have opened the document to make sure it isn't blank - it looks like everything is there.

When I go through the import steps in Thunderbird, though, nothing imports. I have tried several times, shut down TB, opened it again - nothing there.

Can anyone help? Thank you!

1. I am customer of Ionos, formerly 1&1, who host my email address.

2. Ionos have advised me I will be unable to download emails from their server after 25 April unless the email program supports TLS1.2 or higher and they said Thunderbird version 52.00 supported TLS1.2 or higher.

3. I have 2 PCs with Windows XP SP3 and 1 laptop with Windows Vista. Ionos say the only email program I will be able to use after 25 April using the latter 3 devices to download emails from their server is Thunderbird version 52.00.

4. Is there now any means by which one may install Thunderbird version 52.00 onto a PC with Windows XP SP3 or, alternatively, a laptop with Windows Vista?
