Hi, we started getting Thunderbird errors on both inbound and outbound messages when everything was fine earlier this morning on both. We are on Windows 10 running the Thunderbird 115.5.0 (32-bit) Release.
Inbound error message: The STAT command did not succeed. Error getting message number and sizes. Mail server inbound.att.net responded: [SYS/TEMP] Server error - Please try again later. Outbound error message: Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) outbound.att.net was lost in the middle of the transaction. Try again.
Are you all experiencing server issues - I don't believe this is a configuration problem on my side?

Since upgrading to version 115.8.1 I get unable to write email to mailbox . I have three email addresses in my profile. All are POP. One (from yahoo) always hangs and the other two fail intermittently. OS is Windows 10 64-bit at 22H2 level It doesn't matter if Zonealarm is turned on or off. I have over 300GB of free space on disk.
Full error message: Unable to write the email to the mailbox. Make sure the file system allows you write privileges, and you have enough disk space to copy the mailbox.

My wife is an ardent and long-time Thunderbird user. She has tens of thousands of old emails organized into dozens of folders. Recently she noted that many folders contained scrambled emails. For example, an email titled "The race to re-design sugar" from Sept. 2020 now contained what looked like content from an email from Office Depot. See below for a short piece of the body of the email. Anyway, I ran Thunderbird's "repair folder" function and not only did it not unscramble the emails, it also seems to have deleted any emails prior to 6 months ago. Fortunately I've got her T-Bird profile file backed up daily, so was able to restore the original (but scrambled) emails. Any thoughts? I use outlook, but I've got pretty good PC skills if you need to take me into the weeds. Thanks!
Example of one of the scrambled emails: 'From - Sun Feb 4 12:28:28 2024 X-Account-Key: account5 X-UIDL: AEZHkUhl+QCXZb/zNgpcWOY28vQ X-Mozilla-Status: 0009 X-Mozilla-Status2: 00000000 X-Mozilla-Keys: Received: from 127.0.0.1 by atlas-sbc-production.v2-mail-prod1-bf1.omega.yahoo.com pod-id atlas--sbc-production-bf1-7448fd4479-zt82t.bf1.yahoo.com with HTTP; Sun, 4 Feb 2024 20:27:34 +0000 Return-Path: <error@em.officedepot.com> X-Originating-Ip: [20.57.66.208] Received-SPF: pass (domain of em.officedepot.com designates 20.57.66.208 as permitted sender) Authentication-Results: atlas-sbc-production.v2-mail-prod1-bf1.omega.yahoo.com; dkim=pass header.i=@em.officedepot.com header.s=officedepot; spf=pass smtp.mailfrom=em.officedepot.com; dmarc=pass(p=NONE) header.from=em.officedepot.com; X-Apparently-To: xxxx.xxxx@att.net; Sun, 4 Feb 2024 20:27:34 +0000 X-YMailISG: T.w7qP0WLDtIndBfVsii11yVLG9YUwuh8bXrpNWGHf2Ezt9n W35tfL8ReGJq0phUGg1KeSNel41YbOoogg21rDC6q0i7xvo0jIbdikP0kWCS '

When Thunderbird is set to synchronize from an iCloud contact CardDAV, it is unable to show the photos for the contact. I am using TB 115 on Windows (problem is platform independent).
Apple's carddav API server returns in its vcard a HTTP URL as its PHOTO field, like:
PHOTO;VALUE=URI:https://gateway.icloud.com/contacts/12345678901/ck/card/123 456789abcd12345678abcd1234567
(not a real url; you can export the vcard if you have done the above reproducing steps)
However, this URL cannot be directly accessed (would return 401 saying "Missing X-APPLE-WEBAUTH-USER cookie"; see e.g. this github issue). However, the cookie is not really needed; I can use HTTP basic auth with the same credential for the carddav server (in this case it's the apple app password, yourappleid@apple.com:1234-abcd-5678-dcba
).
The current implementation directly puts the carddav photo URI into an HTML img tag. I think Thunderbird can make an AJAX request to fetch the image with the credentials and then put the result into an img tag.

Hi All, Greetings!!! For the past two days, I have got the error like "Sending of the message failed. The message could not not be sent because the connection to Outgoing Server (SMTP) timed out". So I have restared our router (Broadband Modem), and then tried to send the mail, but the result is same. Then I have tried using my mobile network (using hotspot method), this time mail was sent sucessfully. Please help me to solve the issues...
Thanks Karthik

Thunderbird runs slow...ie when I type an email I can easily type faster than thunderbird will accept characters....(this does not happen in other applications)...this happened about a month ago, and then stopped ( I have no idea why)...but the problem is back. I am running Ver 115.10.0 build 2024012173147. Rebooting windows 11 makes no difference.... I just tried to enter Troubleshoot mode and thunderbird stopped responding....Top line says Mozilla Thunderbird (Not Responding). Thunderbird is connected to my gmail account. ...and I run IMAP....with 'store all messages on the computer', but thunderbird wants to load every email from the server'
Any advice would be appreciated Rick

I notice this subject has been mentioned prior, but I cannot find a resolve. Been using Thunderbird for a long time without issues, but last week it stopped sending and receiving emails through the Skymesh internet provider. Still sends & receives Hotmail/Gmail/Yahoo, but will not connect to any Skymesh accounts. Have reinstalled/updated, but no change. SMTP timeout and if I change settings I get the 10060 error. Could not even connect to their Webmail page either. If I turn VPN on, then I can access their Webmail page. Rang Skymesh, they poked around and said it was all this end and with Thunderbird. Seems an IP number change via VPN with Opera resolved the Webmail page access, but I cannot do that thru Thunderbird. Running Win 7. Anyone ??

Im using Thunderbird Beta release. Starting last week, my PC would become extremely slow, to the point it would nearly come to a complete halt. After digging around, I realized it was due to excessively large Thunderbird NSTMP files that were being created. I would delete them and the speed would improve. But then a while later, the NSTMP files reappear and gobble up all my Harddisk again. Part of the issue is the sheer large size of the file, which will consume all available space on my HD, which at present is 600GB. But it also eats up all my RAM so my system slows down til the NSTMP file is fully built.
I use this as imap with Gmail installed on a PC with a 1TB SSD
Today after my pc started slowing again, I started poking around and noticed my main Inbox is massive, 29GB, which there is no chance its that large. All Mail is only 1GB to give perspective
This has been going on about a week.
I tried repairing my inboxes and other folders, but that does not seem to have helped.

For the last couple of months my top right hand buttons have been invisible. If I can find the appropriate spot to click, the functions still work, but it's difficult to judge exactly where to click for each one. Sometimes I close it when I want to restore down, etc. Is there a fix for this? I found one other person with this problem in the help loop, but the question was never answered and it had been archived. Thanks! Kimberly

Compact Now keeps popping up when I am trying to get other things done. I more often than not just cancel out of it, but it's annoying and distracting and interrupts my flow. At times, I do click on it to perform the compacting task, but them everything comes to a standstill. I can't delete messages, can't move them to other folders, can't answer emails. Nothing. I have large folders full of emails that I have kept from years ago, so it takes it a long time to finish compacting. Meanwhile, I am left stranded, unable to complete the tasks that need to be seen to. Is there any way that I can opt out of getting these compact now pop-ups? I am running Windows 7 Ultimate sp1, with Thunderbird 91.4.0 Thank you!

Thanks to anyone who can help.
Recently, a weird problem developed on my Thunderbird. I can delete maybe 7 or 8 emails, and suddenly nothing else will delete. I can press the delete button and nothing happens. The only resolution is closing Thunderbird and reopening.
I have followed these steps: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cannot-delete-messages#:~:text=Close%20Thunderbird.,Select%20the%20Trash%20and%20Trash.
And it did not resolve the problem.
Any other ideas?

1) Login into your Gmail account with a web browser like Firefox. 2) once logged into Gmail and on the home page, click the settings cog wheel and then click the link that says "view all settings" 3) once on setting screen then click "labels" tab 4) once on liable tab screen go to the far right where it says "show in IMAP" click the empty check box so that it has an [x] in it for it to be included as a folder with syncing with Thunderbird 5) on label tab screen move left look for "show on label list" and look under this and click "show" for each folder you want to show in Thinderbird 6) solution complete

Lately, I noticed that TB is quite slow at loading messages so I looked up for a solution and found that compacting folders could help a bit. The problem is that when I tried to compact some folders TB started to write hundred of GBs to disk completely filling my ssd and ultimately failing with a 'not enough disk space error'.
I don't think this is supposed to happen. Can I fix my inbox or should I start from scratch?

I successfully sent my last email on 26Oct21. Ever since,I cannot send email. I get the following message when I try to send: Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to Outgoing server (SMTP) mail.shaw.ca failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again.
I have tried everything suggested on this forum and other online help sites. One source suggested trying to ping my email server, and that failed as well. I tried temporarily reducing the TLS to 1.1,but that didn't help. I tried temporarily disabling my Windows antivirus and firewall, but that didn't work. I am at a loss on how to proceed, and am planning to take my desktop to a local computer repair shop to see if they can figure it out. Can you suggest anything that might help? Thanks very much!
