I am using Firefox on an old Ubuntu machine, and found myself unable to disable the auto update feature of Firefox. I understand why Firefox wants to do auto update, but for me personally it's negatively impacting my productivity. Many times I was looking up reference materials only to be told that I need to restart Firefox because it just updated itself. Imagine how frustrating it is, especially when I use the Private Browsing mode a lot to avoid having to clean up browsing history and cached files later. All in all, while the auto update feature might be good for some users, it's just not working for me, so I want it to be disabled.

I tried a couple of things. First, there's nothing in the "Preferences" page related to the auto update. Second, I tried to change the value of "app.update.auto" in the "about:config" page to false, and it still does auto update. Finally, I tried to add a "policies.json" file to "/etc/firefox/", with the following content:

{ "policies":

  {
    "AppAutoUpdate": false,
    "DisableAppUpdate": true,
    "DisableTelemetry": true
   }

}

Yet it still does auto updates. As a matter of fact, it updated itself to version 80 just now. This driving me crazy. Any useful suggestions will be sincerely appreciated.

Hi Friends,

I have read the other posts on this questions.

I have a very unique use case. My grandfather is 101 and still going strong. He loves his computer and regularly has in-depth questions that he calls me with.

The firefox (latest version) updates are causing him serious problems though. It seems like they are very regular - I know this is good, but in this case, being 101, I just want him to be able to use his computer without being bothered with the updates. I am aware of the different options, but unfortunately there is not a "turn off" option (why!). I did read something about modifying a .json file though. On a side note, I'm a computer guy and have been involved with IT for over 30 years. The firefox updates are a "bother" for other people I work with as well.

Does somebody have the code they can share to turn off these updates? When this stupid covid is over I will be seeing him regularly and will perform the updates myself.

Thank you.

I use the Bookmarks Bar extensively. But all the folders are the same color. I would find it much easier to find things quickly if I could change individual folder colors.

Any way to do this?

I'm already using Jscher's excellent UserChrome script to make the folders an attractive yellow, instead of gray. But can this be done for individual foders?

Letters (most noticeably x, y, and z) appear to be missing from text in web pages. Running macOS 10.14.6 with Firefox Browser 80.0. Note the image from the drop down menu on this support page. Missing y's, z's, and x is replaced by quotation marks (ie Firefo" Snc).

I have seen this sporadically on a couple of macs that I own. Text seems okay in Safari.

Thank you for your help!

I have a new HP printer and I am using Firefox from a Windows 10 PC. I am plagued with Paper Mismatch errors when printing emails from Firefox. After a lot of trouble shooting, I have found that this problem seems to be confined to Firefox, as it does not happen when using other browsers, e.g. MS Edge. I have tried resetting all Firefox printer settings and the problem still happens when opening Firefox in Safe Mode.

The print job stops with the error message Paper Size Mismatch after the 1st page, and printing will not continue or even move on to the next job until the error is cancelled from the printer's control panel. This means I have to be working next to the printer and cannot print remotely.

In the printing dialogue box under Printing Preferences, the paper size shows Letter, whereas I am using A4 in the printer, and this is the mismatch causing the problem. I can change the paper size in Printing Preferences from Letter to A4, but I have to do this for every job seperately as the paper size setting always reverts to Letter. This is totally impracticable.

Regretably, I will have to stop using Firefox unless there is a solution. Can anyone help me to change the paper size setting to always default to A4, please? Thanks in anticipation.

I tried to visit a website on a private network.

Firefox threw up a security warning about how the web page uses TLSv1.0.

I clicked on the "Enable TLS v1.0" button because I wanted to temporarily view the web page, so that I can look at the TLS certificate to debug an unrelated issue about the cert chain on this site.

Now I want to go back to the default settings, where Firefox blocks TLSv1.0.

How do I do that?

In about:config I looked at security.tls.version.min but it's still on the original value of 3. Yet Firefox is still letting me view that particular page over TLSv1.0 without the security warning.

I do web design. And my problem is that I used to click the refresh button in firefox and it would instantly load an updated version of the pages I was working on. But now it does the exact same thing I hate about chrome. It loads pages using cached css and javascript files. And the only way to view the updated websites is to go private mode which is very annoying. Is there an option to get around this? Or it's a software problem?

A few weeks ago, Soundcloud stopped loading, but only on Firefox / Win10 PC even after disabling ad blockers. The site continues to work in other browsers and mobile apps. It began to work again in FF for a short while, but it's been down a solid two weeks since. I've put in a support request with Soundcloud but never heard back.

No errors ever appear, it's just completely blank. Site-wide. Nothing will load. I can't find anything online describing this issue.

I'm dreading having to wipe out all of my cookies, history, cache, saved logins/passwords, etc. and I'm hoping there is some other recourse. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi all,

I'm a MacOS (v.10.15.6) user, and I've been trying to get rid of the "Your browser is being managed by your organisation" on FireFox (v.80.0.1) without any success. This is the detail of the "Enterprise Policy" that's blocking: ExtensionSettings {"{443830f0-1fff-4f9a-aa1e-444bafbc7319}":{"installation_mode":"blocked"},"{02274e0c-d135-45f0-8a9c-32b35110e10d}":{"installation_mode":"blocked"}}

What I have tried: - I have uninstalled and deleted all Avast (& other antivirus related apps - I just kept "Clean my mac" but I suppose that's not the core of the issue?) (binned & through a ~/Library/ search) - I quit all apps that seemed suspicious in the Activity Monitor - I have unistalled the previous version of FireFox (& deleted all packages found on ~/Library/ and reinstalled all again

Note: the extension seems to be applied only on FireFox as my Chrome browser seems to be running normally so far.

I've restared my Mac every time I'd do something to make sure it'd sync somehow but nothing works. I still get teh same "Your browser is being managed by your organisation" on my latest FireFox version (v.80.0.1).

What can I do? Thanks a lot!

Aside from the general usability issues caused by nags screens and constant prompts in software, for various specific reasons I need to disable the update nags that appear every day in Firefox.

This used to be possible with a simple reminders setting in Firefox, which the developers now appear to have removed.

How can this be done now?

Thanks.
