Why why why why is FF forcing download of pdf files? It is a horrible problem for me.

Especially because I am a university prof and, in the classroom, constantly display (my own!) files from the course management system on the classroom devices. I DO NOT WANT MY FILES SAVED ONTO THE (PUBLIC) CLASSROOM DEVICE. Never mind multiple copies as it will download EACH AND EVERY TIME I open it.

I have been looking everywhere for a solution or a way to disable this feature, there seems to be no such option but I am seeing a lot of posts from people who object to this as much as I do.

After many many years of loyally using FF and a paid subscriber to some Mozilla services, I am afraid I am going to have to give up using FF is this isn't fixed NOW.

I am encountering an issue where I am unable to update from within my browser (Help->About). I have confirmed that the policies.json ("C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\distribution\policies.json") has "DisableAppUpdate": false, to ensure I am not blocking myself. As of now if I try to update it gives me a prompt saying: "Updates avaliable at https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new" Is I give myself administrator access then I get normal behavior and the browser begins updating automatically.

The odd thing is if I modify the permissions on C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox directory to allow normal users the ability to write/modify its contents then the Normal User Account is then able to update the browser as desired. The obviously solution is to just modify the permission and allow Normal Users to update. But I am hoping you have a better solution that more precise because I am concerned of the security impact of opening the directory to all users.

Is there a specific file/sub directory I can give them access to that accomplishes the same thing or is there a setting I need to change on the installer that would fix this.

Any site I go to such as my utility companies that have a link for me to open and view my bill while logged into my online account are prevented from opening by Firefox. Their help articles define the pop-up window as a window that opens automatically. That is not what I'm talking about. I am selecting the link. I am giving the site permission to open the window. It is not automatic. Google Chrome, Microsoft edge, no other browser has this problem. please help.

hi. recently f-secure was blocked by fire fox i believe and i removed firefox from my pc. (not sure why) i have now reinstalled firefox as i had a email from f-secure to say it was now available for firefox but despite spending the last 2 hours going round in circles i cannot find a way to reinstall f-secure. can anyone please help me? thankyou. my subscription is valid.

So why can't Firefox make their bookmark system more simple? I can spend 10 minutes looking for a bookmark that I KNOW I have & end up just googling for the site.

I cannot log into my Bank or puzzle> No internet? Trouble started with Firefox upgrade to must have Edge? Can you call me [removed phone# from public forum]. I am a senior and technically challenged and must make these corrections. Why did you upgrade and change everything?

I download some documents and save them on my hard drive. When I open them, it opens Firefox instead of opening Acrobat reader. I need to be able to work offline with them in Adobe - I do not want the HTML version. This has only started happening recently. If this can't be solved I will have to try another browser. I am a reasonably savvy user but I am not a technical expert. Thanks for any help going - I am desperate. They all seem to have saved themselves as HTML documents. Any ideas?

Thought I should bring it to your attention. My default browser is Firefox and I use Earthlink as my email. Earthlink just informed me that Firefox no longer supports Earthlink. I currently have like 40 windows and a few hundred of tabs opened from when the bookmark star was not working after updates. I have found it too difficult to organize my current filing system ever since they stopped the drag and drop feature. I want to type in more than the first letter to find a file or folder. I want to type in a word - have those FOLDERS only come up to chose from with that word in their titles..but alas no field to do so. The Organize page is hard to find - below the options as a postscript on the ff options submenu. Once there - it doesn't bring up just folders in one box and the files that you want to organize in another box and the ability to drag them into the right folder. Instead it brings up only misc files in no particular order. I can't work with that for type of job. This is more for finding a file I think - alone. So -that's why I left so many files up. Not my normal way to do things - I would file them then close all windows down empty - or maybe just what I was working on still up. Not my question. My question is just what was in the title bar. That's all. Thanks. Oh I know the setting is there to have them open at start up or not. Question is is I say no - will they be deleted? I know you can click on "restore prior session" from the ff menu after history. (altho I can't see it - poss bec I opened with prior session. ) I basically want access to SEE my prior session windows/tabs without opening them until I CLICK on them to activate them. I want to see the TITLE of the links basically "off-line" and decide if I want to go there and work or not one by one - NOT to "restore all" or not. And if you don't restore previous session on your subsequent session - and logoff/shutdown. Is the prior session lost for your "3rd session and forward"? does it only save the very last session? say i had 40 windows open. chose not to open them auto next session - via settings. AND i never opened them all for that subsequent session. What happens to those 40 windows the next time? Are they unsaved? Since i never opened them - say only used the new blank windowtab to check the weather. closed the link shut down. That session had no windows or tabs left open but the home page = next session should have no windows or tabs saved in the ff menu underneath the history by how it is said. There is no clarification. It's a big deal to just try it - and lose 300 tabs I need to look at and favorite through. Get me? I hope it's clear. I feel you only need the title bar but it wouldn't allow so I felt I had to elaborate. PLS help. I have to clean up to do MS OS upgrades, backups, I have partions, gotta read up so this thing has to be fixed first. Plus auto opening/connecting to links on all those tabs at start up is interferring with updates bec they happen at the same time - badddd news. Thanks all!

Before version 98 of Firefox, it would remember where I downloaded files to based on what site I'm downloading the file from. For example: when I would download a statement PDF from American Express, the Firefox download prompt would automatically be navigated to <...documents\records\AmEx\statements>. Then, when I would go to download something like the latest Firefox installer, the download prompt would automatically start in the folder <...programs\standard programs\Firefox>. No navigation needed in either case. Now, with version 98, all Firefox can remember is the last place I downloaded to, with no memory of site context. (This includes sites I've been to more than once since the update to version 98.)

This was a very convenient, time-saving feature. Is there any way to restore this site-contextual memory of download directories?

(I tried searching through existing questions, but my apologies if I missed an existing question on this topic.)

I need to access Canvas as part of my school coursework. As of yesterday, Canvas refuses to load in Firefox. I've restarted my Mac, made sure Firefox is up to date, and tried running Canvas in Chrome, where it worked just fine. My internet connection is also stable. All other websites seem to be working in Firefox, but for some reason Canvas doesn't load after any amount of time and the interface appears as the attached image. Any help? Firefox is my preferred browser and I actually cannot do any online coursework without Canvas, so any suggestions or advice are very welcome.

Hi, I did one of those updates you have and it really messed up my computer where it just won't allow me to open many of the website that I regularly use, such as my gmail or even the SSA.gov. Whenever an update is done, some issues come to mess up my computer. So, is it possible that someone can help me solve this issue?

Recently, I purchased some software to scrub my hard drive due to my Dell Desktop running slow. That is when the way I normally access emailed attached files changed. Normally, if I receive a WORD or EXCEL (MS file) in email, I can open the email and access the attachment without having to download and save to my desktop or hard drive. I have changed all settings in the Privacy Area / Trust Area of MS but this did not change anything. MS Representatives stated I would need to use Outlook to make this work, but I know it will work without using Outlook. I think the Scrubbing / Cleaning software I purchased changed a setting with my email for safety purposes since there is risk in opening a file directly from email. Any suggestions on how to change back to how this worked previously - without having to download and save the file? Thanks for your help.

I recently migrated from Chrome to Firefox for a variety of reasons. I would like to continue using Firefox. However, everytime I close out of it and then reopen it I am forced to log back into every site. Firefox does not hold my passwords and does not keep me logged in like Chrome does.

Is there a way for me to correct this? Otherwise I need to go back to using Chrome.

The Firefox prefs.js file was quarantined by avast yesterday. Message indicated malware had infected the file. Now when I click on the Firefox icon the MSN browser comes up. How can I get back to using Firefox safely? Can I uninstall Firefox, then re-install it to make the problem go away?

I guess this applies for any web browser, but is there an option to disable this with Firefox...? Basically, whenever my BT connection goes offline, Firefox decides to take it upon itself to open up just to tell me it can't connect/that the web is offline etc. It's seriously annoying. I know it's offline as the hub light will change from blue to green/orange etc. It's even worse if I'm doing something else, such as playing on a game, and it's interrupted by the web browser opening itself. :-\

Any suggestions? Thanks.
