Hi Team,

Really need help. Every time I try to search for a word, a single word in the address bar, the moment I hit <enter>, I not only get the desired search engine results but also do get an annoying URL-suggestion pop-up strip in the browser, just below the bookmark bar which basically suggestions a URL for that word.

ex. If I search for a single word like: "Nasdaq", I get a pop-up strip below the book-mark bar asking me if I was searching for "www.nasdaq.com"?

  • screenshot attached here.

This has become real annoying now as I use the browser on my office machine. Your kind suggestions on how to get rid of this browser behavior will be extremely helpful.

What does the statement "Your browser is being managed by your organization." mean at the top of my Options page? I don't have an 'organization'.

There have been times when I think that an outside source is directing my computer to places I don't want it to go. There are also times when a link within a news site will not go to the news story I expect it to go. There are other times when my screen saver has been removed and just the blue Windows default screen is there. I have to go into [Control Panel] and re-select the picture file I wish it to draw images from for display. There are other anomalies too that seem to be not of my doing. These are all recent, within a couple of months. I use Avast Virus software and Malwarebytes software too. Also, as of two days ago there are ads popping up on every news site I watch. I did have an ad blocker program running but it would appear to not be working.

However, that statement 'Your browser is being managed by your organization.' is making me concerned. Can you explain statement that to me?

Also, while I'm here I have another question. I have been using Firefox since the end of Netscape Navigator and once upon a time any desktop shortcut icons were all Firefox's icon. Then for years they turned into Internet Explorer icons. When I clicked on the shortcuts Explorer would open and I don't like that program. So now I click on an icon's [Properties] and copy the url and paste it into Firefox's search window. But within the last month the icons are now Google's Chrome image. I don't understand why, if Firefox is my default browser, these icon changes occur. And why Chrome? Is it because I have Google's search engine as the default search engine?

I appreciate any help you can provide to me. Thanks!

Is there a way to assign a name or alias to websites listed in the Logins & Passwords manager? I'm helping my dad set up an account for billpay for company A who uses Company B to provide the payment functionality. The problem is Company B's URL has no reference to Company A at all and that's where the login and pw are configured. My dad won't know to look for Company B's URL in Logins & Passwords. Heck, it took me awhile to figure out the credentials were saved under Company B; I kept searching for Company A. It would make life much easier if I could alias company B's URL or add a keyword to it. Thanks for any assistance.

It seems that there isn't an add on out there for Firefox that mimics the download status bar like in Chrome-based browsers. Not one of them are able to open files from the status bar. All of them open a window for what ever reason. Is it because bad coding on the add on dev part, or is this a limitation of Firefox itself. If it is the former, where can I start and work backwards to make one myself. If it is the later, will this ever be a feature?

I want to find out how to stop incessant update notifications on a MacBook Pro. Respectfully, please no lectures about just going ahead and updating or how I should keep my browser updated. We all make personal choices about how we want to manage our technology. I googled this first and found so many other people asking the same question, but no firm solutions. As you know, in preferences I have the option to allow automatic updates or to first be asked before updating, but it's a Morgan's Fork. If you don't allow automatic updates - which is out of the question - then they are going to bug the pee out of you until you update. That makes me dig my heels in deeper. Either I find a way to turn off these annoying notifications or I am done with Firefox. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Hello Mozilla community!

yesterday I installed a program which installed adware (I overlooked a little checkbox). It also changed a couple of settings in my standard browser (Firefox) like the search engine etc. It also changed the homepage. I always had the homepage pointing to my YouTube feed. I changed it back to it using the about:preferences#home method. Under "Homepage and new windows" I set the homepage to my custom URL and the home button works perfectly fine. Yet when I open a new window (with ctrl+n, not a new tab!) it also displays my home page (YouTube). It has never done that before and I cannot find anything in the settings to change that. I tried looking in about:config with browser.newtab but didn't find anything that seemed related to my problem. A couple of weeks ago I tried Firefox Nightly and I started it up and the homepage worked fine AND it didn't display it in a new window. It only did this after it synchronized the data with my Firefox account. Now my question is: How can I remove the the Homepage from a new window (and replace it with an empty page or the Firefox Home)? Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Kindly Jay

p.s. I attached the Troubleshooting Information and I'm using Linux

When I record screencasts, I don't want people to see what extensions I'm using. For one, it's distracting, for second, it's a privacy issue.

In chrome (iron, opera...) I can quickly drag and resize the extensions area so nothing is seen. Fast an easy.

Is there a way to do this in Firefox. I am open to extensions or keyboard shortcuts as well!

(Pinning to overflow menu is not a solution. It takes many clicks and a long time.)

Thank you for any help.
