My previous avatar was transparent and looked good on both dark and light browser themes, but I've made a change, uploaded my new avatar on the Firefox Account page and... transparent parts of the picture have become gray, and now they look very ugly on light themes in the browser (or on Firefox/Mozilla pages). But I can't even turn transparent parts into white because it still looks awful with dark browser theme. Is it a bug, or is it an intended change?

When I try to google some absolute file path (e.g. /etc/fstab) in the address bar, instead of googling, it just opens the file from my local filesystem (as file:///etc/fstab)

I know that I can use search keywords or quote file paths, but even so, I think that users hardly ever use browsers to open local files by absolute url. So this UX totally disappoints me because I need to keep this in my mind every time I want to google file or I lose my mental concentration and then I need to change the focus from solving my issue here and now to fixing this misbehavior

Can I somehow fix this behavior with about:config?

keywords: firefox (111.0 (64-bit)) issue/ bookmarking/ ubuntu. hi, before this version, when i drag a link from the tab link bar, to a bookmark folder, it names the link properly using information from the site (link). eg. a youtube page link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2v-gvRxmINg before, when dragged to bookmark, it is named as the video name: 8 Reasons to QUIT CHROME and USE BRAVE Instead! . this helpful to know what the bookmark.

but now, the name is simply the link, ie, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2v-gvRxmINg. this is a terrible name.

not sure whether this is the right place for this. this is either a bug or a "new" feature that i have to configure manually the behavior of bookmarking.

this is the info of firefox: -- see attached file. 111.0 (64-bit)

I've just discovered, that by typing text into urlbar and then clicking enter while holding SHIFT or ALT leads to a different behavior by opening tab in new window or new tab respectively.

But I have custom layout with caps+space acting as enter via xkb 8-level mapping, and that enter always opens new tabs. I suspect what is happening is that firefox thinks that I have alt down when the keyboard state is in third level. But I don't really use those modifiers so is it possible to just disable this behavior and open everything in same tab?

I am having my first experience with a Chromebook and downloaded Firefox. I got a tablet version, which doesn't work well for me on a big(gish) scren with mouse and keyboard.

I see from a variety of articles across the web that I should be able to install and use a Linux version of Firefox, but I can't find info on this here on mozilla.org Which is my preferred source when it comes to Firefox :)

So: Is there a step-by-step guide to installing Linux version of Firefox on a Chromebook?

Hi, from many time (some months ago) I have this problem: sometimes (well, actually very often, but not always) when I start firefox it runs in “Private browsing” mode.

The problem happens both if I click on the icon in the gnome dock, and if I run firefox from the terminal. In both situations, the problem happens sometimes, and some times not.

When I launch it from the terminal, the output is the same, either if I see the bug or not.

The problem has already been reported on the Fedora support site, too.

What can I do to sort it out? Thank you very much

My corporate network is being hammered by connections to firefox-settings-attachments.cdn.mozilla.net.

When looking at the squid logs, I see the following: access.log:1678216931.488 170104 1.2.3.155 TCP_TUNNEL/200 11400353 CONNECT firefox-settings-attachments.cdn.mozilla.net:443 - CARP/1.2.2.11 -

If I understand correctly, this connection is to download new files that pertain to security, cert revocation lists, blocklists, plus a bunch of non-security related stuff.

The question is, how do I make this file downloaded as small as possible while still keeping the security bits... (saw this page, and followed what I thought pertinent https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-stop-firefox-making-automatic-connections) The second question is... can we change the download schedule of these downloads?

If you are asking why I am having network issues over 11 Mb, the answer is that all my clients go through a corporate proxy... We have many thousand devices and last time we choked the network with 80GB downloaded on a timeframe of 15 min.

Thanks much!

After the version 110 update, Firefox has issues displaying text in certain pages like Google Calc, PDF forms, online publication readers. The text seems to break up and fade out. Navigating up and down the page often restores the missing text, but not all of it. Suck pages render without issue in Google Chrome. I am using Firefox in a Linux container within ChromeOS (stable channel), but this issue only started after the latest Firefox update.

It appears that the Firefox v. 111 update has solved this issue.

I need to Firefox to behave like SPIN Safe Browser, aka removing all kind of potentially unsafe material. Since Spin Safe Browser is built-in with NSFW filtering but it's only available for Android/iPhone, and no, emulating Android or iOS is NOT an option. None of the current desktop browsers met the criteria for me to be safe enough to block NSFW (porn) content on default settings, only SPIN Safe Browser can do this and it's not available for PC/Windows, or Linux for that matter, so my best bet is to configure Firefox as much as possible so it can block as much unsafe content as possible but there are two or three problems I am facing right now which aren't exactly easy to fix:

1. Troubleshoot Mode DISABLES all addons, meaning that if I restart Firefox on this mode, I will be able to search and view for NSFW material. There could be a relatively easy way to fix this by building Firefox from source without this specific option. If this is possible then all I need are to instructions on how to build it without Troubleshooting Mode. Doing this step is critical as Troubleshoot Mode is more or less the equivalent of "Turn the filter off, I want to watch porn", as it disables every customization made to enforce web filtering. See image 1.

2. The addons themselves can be removed, either by manually disabling or uninstalling them. This is a huge problem because once this is done, Firefox no longer is capable of filtering unsafe content by itself. I need that these addons cannot be removed, or as a workaround, add as many layers of difficulty to prevent this from happening or making it as difficult as possible so the user simply gives up because it's too complicated. Or, building Firefox from source with these addons by default would solve this issue. You don't have to install ALL the addons for this step, just a few of them will do the work. See image 2.

3. Additionally, if there could be a way to permanently enable DoH and set a specific DNS by default and prevent it from being disabled or changed to something else. For example: https://family.adguard-dns.com/dns-query could potentially help me achieve the result I want. See image 3.

Please note that SPIN Safe Browser always blocks NSFW content by default and it's impossible to search this type of content with this browser, there is no way to turn off the filter and this is exactly how I want Firefox to behave. I have read something about converting APKs into PWAs but I'm not really versed in that, but if you know a way to "port" SPIN Safe Browser to PC/Windows/Linux please let me know, or if you have any other suggestion than can help me make Firefox behave more like SPIN Safe Browser on it's default settings I would really appreciate that.

Hello,

I've changed the background color on the private tabs/windows with this CSS:

@-moz-document url(about:privatebrowsing){
 html.private{
  background-color: #2B2A33 !important;
  --in-content-page-color: gray !important;
}

I would like to make the "background-color" to be the same as the window background without hardcoding it, so it always match the theme, ie:

 background-color: <window.background> !important;

I would like to do the same with the background color of the search box in the private mode window, but I can't find the id.

Regards.

When viewing certain websites while "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of your selections above" is on (screenshot 1) most of the text is extremely pale to the point of being unreadable (screenshot 2). I've opened an issue (https://github.com/broadinstitute/gatk/issues/8115) for one of such websites in the past before realizing that it seems to be a Firefox problem. I realized that unchecking the option fixes the font color issue (screenshot 3). But in many cases it introduces a new problem where many of the buttons and interactive elements have this weird text rendered on top of them (screenshot 3). This happens for example in Google calendar. https://data.humancellatlas.org/explore/projects is another example.

So in the end neither of the options results in a readable web page.

Any tips on how to go about fixing it?

Summary : UI Freeze issue in Firefox version greater than 100 Behaviour: Screen becomes unresponsive We have an angular 13 web application running in kiosk mode in Firefox using command This UI unresponsive when no interaction with the screen for long hrs and sometime it is crashing while it is getting used. We are seeing this issue in all the Firefox versions deployed in our systems that are all version 100 or above. We do not see this issue in the same base device OS and resources with version 100 and below.System Details : Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS, aarch64 GNU/Linux Hardware: Jetson Xavier NX RAM : 8 GB CPU : 6 cores  The way we solve this issue today is by relaunching Firefox. Just by closing and opening the browser makes the UI is responsive again.

Hi: I'm trying to find some way of removing the vertical lines in replies. A previous asking of this same question lead me to attempt to install the 'replywithheader' add-on but it hangs with the "Add ReplyWithHeader? This extension will have permission to: .... Cancel Add" popup box ... It doesn't matter if I click either Cancel or Add, the box just hangs there. Or is there some other way of removing the vertical lines? One might have thought this would be an easily accessible option in the setup.

Thing is that I'm working on a rather long report with other people and we email changes back and forth but each time another vertical line is added. How to nuke ALL the vertical lines? How to stop them from being added in the first place?

Hi, Have been having issues with the google cdm widewine drm plugin for a wee while now but eventually found the solution to my specific case. The problem was firefox never managed to install the plugin, it just kept saying it was installing it but never did.

It tuns out that my opnsense router uses an IDS / IPS watchdog plugin called ZenArmor. Tuns out it was blocking the download url for the plugin from the following address

https://r3---sn-c5ioiv45c-5goe.gvt1.com

If I added the gvt1.com domain to it s exceptions list, firefox immediately downloaded and installed the plugin flawlessly.

Sharing is caring. Ta-ta!
