I want to change my username in my Mozilla account. As far as I can see I can only change my e-mail address and password. How to?

Added the site to my HOSTS file to redirect to localhost, still loads but of course sending a few bytes back and forth to mypc.mydomain.local

This is odd behaviour. Not happening with any other FF used by others in the office.
Let me add, that sporadically it also establish a connection that can't be blocked via HOSTS file as it's an IP address connection that resolves to verisondigitalmedia.com - and we're in Europe, not USA so what the...is Verizon doing showing up?
Note also, no extensions or add-ins other then UBlock Origin. Machine runs Avast and also scanned with Malwarebytes for sanity-check. All clean.

I already delete all the istartsurf files and content from my desktop pc, also delete the files in regedit and use few of the anti-malware program like adwcleaner, malwarebytes anti-malware, advancesystem care and etc, but the homepage still stay as istartsurf. I also try change the option in firefox, like change the homepage to yahoo or google, after i change the homepage to yahoo.com and i click the new tab and click home, it show the yahoo.com website as my homepage but when i exit the firefox and open again, the homepage will revert back to istartsurf page...

It appears as though you are attempting to make people set firefox as default browser in order to make it work which is illegal.
Please tell me that is not the ploy. I don't need a ploy to use firefox. it is my browser of choice but I am not going to be forced to chose a default browser in order to make things work.. fastest way to get me to dump the browser completely...
I have not tested this theory but it looks to be the likely reason to me as it falls right under that selection. If you now are forcing that to make all functions work than i am gone... i actually don't have a default browser for a reason... firefox is the browser of choice but won't be if this is true...

I installed Firefox Portable on another laptop. The first page that popped up was Urgent Firefox Update. It autodownloded a js file and opened my downloads window. I wasn't thinking, so I clicked on it. It disappeared. I went to close the firefox window and noticed the address was from India-looking webpage ending in org, I noticed this way too late.
My question is how screwed am I? Now that laptop won't run Avira or Windows Update. These are all bad signs to out and out confirmation that I have just rendered that laptop useless for the internet. I have put a lot of work into it, three partitions with Windows files on it and a Linux partition, with plans for more in the unallocated space. Each partition is about 50g in size and about two-thirds full.
I couldn't get online from the Linux partition, so of course I used the Windows one to click on this trap. I searched the Mozilla forum, but the hits were for .exe files and not this javascript one. Is Mozilla aware of this and is an undo fix available?

I have no new add-ons. It's not all the time and not every day. I believe it started with 55.0.1 update. Very quickly 55.0.2 came out and I thought ah-ha, those good people know about it and this is a fix. But the same thing still happens.
Not every day and never in the morning, just every few days and late in the day. Only on Firefox, not on Thunderbird nor on desktop icons. After restarting it all works for another couple of days and it goes again.

There are 2 profiles in firefox of the previous owner of the computer, who also left lots of locked and hidden material and who therefore possibly is or was hacking and or tracking me, hence I'd like to delete them. I asked him about it and he wouldn't give me a straight answer and he's fairly dodgy in a number of ways so it does rather look like he's up to no good. The two profiles don't show in profile manager via firefox.exe -P but they do show in spybot every time I run it. I uninstalled firefox, both the program and the firefox installer, to get rid of the unwanted stuff but somehow firefox does secret stuff and hides itself so even after an uninstall and running ccleaner and powering down then powering up and reinstalling firefox the dodgy profiles are still there. Firefox also managed to secretly store all my settings and then provide them again. What a tedious nuisance. How unintuitive in that evidently firefox is designed to stop you doing what you want to do, eg uninstall it and then re install a clean copy and start from scratch. This is in win7 on this computer. On my other computer with win10 I've also had lots of hours trying to get rid of 5, 11 and sometimes 17 fake profiles in firefox which avast, malwarebytes, avira and spybot couldn't get rid of. Eventually I found reset windows which seems to have got rid of the fake profiles, so far. If anyone can help re deleting the 2 profiles on the win7 machine I'd be grateful.

I am not concerned with security, just to continue with the functionality.
I planned to download an old version of a browser such as Mozilla, thinking that saving this and turning off updates would allow me to continue to use the interface. However, my concern is that my laptop is from 2011 and if I save and re-launch after 2020 on another device that it will automatically update on all major browsers (most use Chromium).
Can you think of any solution please to help me-I could for example download an old version of Firefox or another browser for this task as it is not being updated anymore?

For several versions it has not been possible to create a shortcut with the website's favicon in the shortcut (e.g. drag and drop the 'globe' from address bar to desktop). They are either the default firefox icon or blank (a 'white page') - not very useful if there are lots on indistinguishable shortcuts the desktop.
Favicons have also disappeared from the Windows 'jump list' (i.e right click on firefox icon in the taskbar to show 'frequently visited' and 'pinned' websites) even when they previously existed. This feature used to work reliably (before version 35.0, I think).
I am aware of security issues with favicons in the address bar - but this is not a related. The same problem exists in safe mode. The cache has been cleared. A fresh install has been tried. Problem exists on Windows XP and Windows 8.1 (and, presumably, Windows 7).
Favicons DO still appear in the tabs - it's just shortcuts and jump lists that are the problem.
