I am writing from an enterprise environment and I have been directed to the community page by Mozilla support to seek answers. This approach seems somewhat unreasonable for an enterprise setting and it has led me to consider discontinuing their product within our organization. I had requested support to send me a copy of my previous correspondence as I had forgotten some details, but this request was ignored, which is disappointing.

I am skeptical about receiving the help or answers I need here. If there is a more direct line to Mozilla support, I would greatly appreciate being redirected there.

We are currently using Firefox 121.0 and are attempting to implement the Applied Epic extension. I have updated the ADMX policy.

Originally, the reg key flip I created did work but something has changed since then. See screenshot of this. I followed the guide provided at https://github.com/mozilla/policy-templates/blob/v5.5/docs/index.md, which instructed me to place the registry key in Software\Policies\Mozilla\Firefox\Extensions\Install\1. However, the guide did not specify whether this should be in HKLM or HKCU. I tried this instead, and it did not work.

I also attempted to implement the extension via GPO, but this was unsuccessful. I tried the new Extension Management system as well, but to no avail.

Here is the JSON configuration I used: {

 "AppliedEpicExtension@gmail.com": {
   "installation_mode": "force_installed",
   "install_url": "https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/file/4143256/applied_epic_extension-3.16.3.xpi"
 }

}

Despite following the guide and trying multiple methods, none of the options seem to work. I would appreciate any guidance on what I might be doing wrong.

Hi,

We've GPOs in place for Edge and Chrome that set said browsers on all our Windows endpoints to open downloaded ICA files in Citrix Workspace.

I've imported the firefox.admx and mozilla.admx file along with assocaited .adml files, checked Github, checked through the GPO settings yet cannot figure out how to do the same with Firefox.

Is there a Mozila Firefox for Windows GPO ADMX setting I can use to control the "Firefox>Settings>General>Files and Applications>Applications" section to add "Content type: ica | Action: Use Citrix Workspace"?

Thanking you....

We have about 35 versions of firefox running across the enterprise (38 to 91) and I have been tasked to update the EOL dates for all versions we have to help bring things up to speed and know what is/is not supported.

I found this page with release dates (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/releases/) but nothing about when a version has reached it's EOL. Any help would be appreciated.

We use Microsoft MDT for computer deployment. We have been installing the Standard version of Firefox for a long time with no problem. Recently we started using AD GPO Templates to configure firefox. To be able to configure certain settings you need to be running the ESR version. I downloaded the more recent ESR version: 102.12.0esr.msi file.

When deploying machine MDT to install Mozilla firefox I keep getting this error: Application Mozilla Firefox ESR returned an unexpected return code: 1618

This is the only application having issues and this issue only came up since I change the installation file to the ESR version.

This is the install command being used in MDT: msiexec /i "Firefoxesr.msi" /qn /norestart

I am posting here and not with MDT support, as this only started happening when I changed the installation file to the ESR version. Has anybody else had a problem deploying ESR version through MDT? Any help on how to fix?

Hello, from Terminal Servers, it is not possible to browse the Internet via FortiGate's explicit proxy from the Firefox browser, while there is no problem with Chrome or Edge. When the user tries to browse external sites, the proxy sends the error page "You need to authenticate to use this service". It seems that Firefox does not pass user authentication to FortiGate. The proxy authenticates users per session via Kerberos tickets.

Firefox version: 115.5.0esr

I also performed the following settings to pass the Kerberos ticket to the proxy without success: https://people.redhat.com/mikeb/negotiate/

I also noticed that it is not possible to change the "network.negotiate-auth.allow-proxies" setting from "false" to "true." Is this my problem? Is it normal that it cannot be changed?

Attached are the settings.

Thank you in advance.

Hello, and good day. Some of my employees in our org have been using Mozilla as their preferred browser; however, I am having difficulty deploying or managing the browser to deploy the Torii Extension/add-on.

Torii provided me with this link https://support.toriihq.com/hc/en-us/.../5148326594203-Deploy-the-Firefox-Extension to deploy the extension but still to no avail. Can someone assist me with getting this tested and deployed?

I am installing Firefox via microsoft endpoint, and deploying multi account containers with the OMA-URI policy for extensions. (this blog page is super helpful! https://securitygeneralist.blogspot.com/2019/08/auto-installing-extensions-on-firefox.html )

The extension by default has containers for Personal, Work, Banking, Shopping.

Is there a way to automatically remove that default container list as part of the install?

Even better, is there a way to create a different default containers list through Endpoint?

Thanks

Hello,

I am working to convert my Org to Firefox ESR, but in order to this I need to uninstall the per user install of Firefox. We have many users that have the Firefox.exe located in their Local Appdata folder. So I need to test the uninstall of the Appdata install and then the install of ESR. But the problem is I haven't been able to get Firefox to automatically install into the appdata folder. How am I able to do this? The users who have it installed in the appdata folder are not admins on their computers. When I'm testing I've also been using a normal user account. Please let me know how I can install the exe into the appdata folder automatically without me specifically placing it there or which exe version I need to do this.

Thanks!

Hello,

I want to download an extension using firefox policy templates. I put the location folder and extension id so that it cannot be deleted, but for some reason it doesn't want to install most of the times. The policy is added after using the gpupdate /force command and restarting the machine then open and close the browser. I wait 10 minutes for the policy to be configured on the computer and open the browser again and nothing happens. Also, the keys in the registry have the corresponding value type (checked in site https://admx.help/?Category=Firefox&Policy=Mozilla.Policies.Firefox::Extensions_Locked). But when I drag and drop with a mouse, the extension is installed and cannot be deleted. Can you tell me why does the extension not install when the policy is in effect?

I sent pictures from Group Policy Manager, Registry editor and showing that the extension can not be deleted after drag and drop with a mouse.

Thank you in advanced!

I am looking for information regarding the support life for settings that are defined in the Preferences (Deprecated) section of the ADMX templates provided in GitHub. There doesn't appear to be a definitive answer as to when these preferences are no longer applicable to a version of Firefox. The term "Deprecated" certainly applies they're on their way to extinction. But only a small handful of preferences have been ported over to non-deprecated template settings (like Auto Update). Is there an expected version of Firefox where all these preferences are meaningless? Or will they be supported indefinitely? "Industry recommendations' from 3rd party security vendors are bloating my policies in the domain space and I can't definitively say they are 'no longer supported as of version xyz' for all these Firefox Preference settings, which happen to be about 80% of the security parameters defined by STIG and/or CIS Workbench.

Hi there,

We are currently utilizing Windows Server 2019 as our development server. To maintain security protocols, we have implemented a Group Policy to block internet access on this server. Initially, this configuration successfully restricted internet access on all browsers, including Firefox. However, recently we encountered an issue where internet access became available solely through the Firefox browser, posing a significant data security risk.

Upon investigation, we discovered that Firefox allows users to modify proxy settings, effectively bypassing our Group Policy restrictions. Unlike other browsers, Firefox permits users to adjust proxy settings without sufficient rights, thus overriding our established restrictions.

To mitigate this issue, we require guidance on enforcing Group Policy settings within Firefox to prevent unauthorized alterations to proxy settings and ensure internet access remains restricted. It's important to note that Firefox is exclusively utilized for development purposes on our server.

Your assistance in resolving this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Regards, Hiten

Hello,

Firefox 102.6.0esr (x64) Firefox 108.2.0 (x64)

after implementing the bookmarks (JSON) setting by GPO policy, it turns out that an entry for Bookmarks is created in the registry and not ManagedBookmarks, which causes bookmarks not to appear in the bookmarks bar. When I manually rename a registry entry from Bookmarks to ManagedBookmarks, the bookmarks appear properly. Please let me know if I'm doing something wrong or if there really is a problem reported by me.

Yours sincerely Bart

I have been tasked to have our Firefox auto update without user interaction. We have a small enterprise of about 2000 or so PCs but only maybe 300 use Firefox consistently. According to the GPOs it claims that it will update even when the browser is not open. I have this working fine on Chrome and Edge. You can see my attached screenshots that my GPOs are dropping down correctly to my VM. When I open Firefox and leave it open I can see that an "updated" folder is created in the Program Files>Mozilla Firefox. If I close Firefox the updated folder disappears and and installs the latest update. Once I reopen Firefox I can see that it updated. I need this to happen without the browser being launched, closed and reopened. I went into Settings>General and noticed that my update section is missing some of the update options that I see when researching. Automatically Install Updates and When Firefox is not Running options (see screen shots) are missing from my install. I am pretty sure this is why it will not truly silently auto update. Does anyone know where those two options are controlled from and how do I get those to show on my installs?

Hello,

We have set up a GPO in our Active Directory environment for the install of Firefox which works great, however since at least version 90, we have had an issue where Firefox won't uninstall automatically when removing the computer object from the security group associated with the GPO. The box is ticked to "uninstall this application when it falls out of scope of management", which works for every other GPO we have created. The computer removes the assignment of the application, but does not then remove the application as it should.

Are you aware of this issue?

Thanks.

Hi all,

we are using Mozilla Firefox ESR in our enterprise environment.

Is there a documentation which URL's Firefox uses when (Mozilla Maintenance Service) when it tries to update his version ?

We have tried with following URL's on our Firewall:

aus.mozilla.org aus2.mozilla.org aus3.mozilla.org aus4.mozilla.org aus5.mozilla.org download.cdn.mozilla.net archive.mozilla.org ftp.mozilla.org

It is finding the new version, but when trying to download the update it fails.

I posted this previously and got zero response and the post is now archived. Hoping for better luck this time.

We have rolled Firefox ESR to all of our computers. On some of them the Maintenance Service is working correctly and installing updates with no user interaction. On other computers, users are getting a UAC prompt to enter admin credentials to install updates. I have tried various changes that I have found across the web from Deleting the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MozillaMaintenance\Security to uninstalling and re-installing the Maintenance Service. All of the users/computers have the same policies applied via Group Policy (Application Autoupdate: Enabled and Disable Update: Disabled) and are not local admins.
