I've been running Thunderbird beta for some time, on one of my Macs. Presently at 101.0b3. It's fine, I don't have any bugs/issues, but I want to downgrade to release and keep my installation uniform.

Now, of course I've read many people do this -- they don't set up duplicate Profiles for it (guilty here).

But what I'm seeing is perhaps a need for some more portability. Namely, if someone has only IMAP accounts, would it be useful to enable export of accounts/credentials in a format that can be imported and is generally portable within the Thunderbird ecosystem?

I see there is an add-on, of unknown (to me) origin or quality -- but it only runs on an older version.

In my case, I have a handful of accounts and while I see you can individually export something from the accounts panel, I don't see any meaningful way to translate that to another version (ie: release) of Thunderbird. Granted, this is not a task that someone does every day (imagine??) but it's a thought.

I wonder, too, if there can be alternate mechanisms to store account information in a secure manner that can be portable -- ie: in the cloud, encrypted -- in a file, etc.

OK that went onto a tangent, sorry -- but as far as I can see, the only option I have is to install the release version of Thunderbird (my beta Profile backed up) and go through the tedium of manually adding accounts.

Am I missing something?

Thanks! :)

Hi all,

I've tried various solutions posted here to move my Thunderbird mail profile to a new hard drive/installation of Thunderbird, and nothing is working. I didn't have the foresight to copy the entire Thunderbird folder out before my HD had to be replaced, and I just copied the individual mail folders inside the Profiles folder (which always worked in the past). Now, no matter where I past them inside the new installation (whether it's AppData > Roaming > Thunderbird > Profiles) or some variation thereof, I either get nothing upon launching TB, or I get empty folders where my emails used to be.

I'm desperate to recapture these emails - I launched a new business last year and all the track record of new accounts/links are in those emails. Can anyone help me? There used to be an add-on posted here but it was later posted that that, also, is now defunct. I also have about 15 years of old Eudora emails from my existing business that I rely on for a "paper trail" that I can't afford to lose.

If there is a repair utility I can buy, I'm willing to do that. I just need to know what to do here. Thanks for any help anyone can send my way.

Gail

I use to click on PDF files and they would open and not download to my download folder. Well now every time i click on a PDF file it downloads it. I have tried every option in settings/general/apps and they still download in a folder. So I thought I would try MS edge and it does the same thing. Is it not the browser and was it in a MS update? It has never done this before. I don't want all these PDF files downloaded!

I have two identical computers running Firefox on Windows 7. No serious issues for 3 years or longer.

Just recently, version 100 showed "Unknown Source" instead of the normal UAC authorization window which lists mozilla.org as the source.

The 100.0.1 update showed the same warning.

This only occurred on one of the computers. The other one does not show the warning.

Firefox worked fine after doing the downloads anyway, but the "Unknown Source" is not right and makes the user think security is being compromised.

Mbox upload to thunderbird went smooth. Setting on 14,000 emails in Local folders... However when I drag and drop that folder into the inbox of my gmail account so I can view remotely on any device, It caps out at 2500. I searched this on the web and it looks like google caps imap exchanges to 2,500/day but it says that it allows you to migrate entire inboxes up to 3 a month...

How do I get more than 2500 or set a schedule of uploading in the right order for exactly 2,500/day?

OR is there a better way altogether to get this to happen? I tried to connect my gsuite email account to pull in all old files but it could never gain access which led me down this google takeout mbox down load and upload into thunderbird

I am looking for suggestions/work flows for migrating existing Mac's from the standard firefox release to the ESR version. I am looking to manage these all under 1 update cycle. A couple of current problems:

  1. On a system with the standard version already installed, I can't find a way to upgrade to the ESR version without uninstalling first.
  2. Once I would do an uninstall and then an install of the new version, I am prompted that I have launched an older version of Firefox and that I must create a new profile. How can I do this without loosing all users bookmarks, extensions, etc?

Thanks!

How to migrate gmail-folders to other imap provider without duplicating emails?

Dear community,

I have been using Thunderbird for many years and simply love it. (Now running v. 91.9.0, 64-bit for Mac-OS monterey v. 12.3.1).

After having used G-suite gmail with my own domain name for years as well, I am now forced to upgrade to a google business offering or take my domain name email somewhere else :-(

So I signed up for an alternative provider, and have copied a couple of folders to the new email-account using Thunderbird. This works like a charm, but what happens when I copy over the AllMail folder? I believe I will then duplicate all the emails copied from the folders?

Is there a smart way of migrating from gmail to another imap-provider using Thunderbird which will take into account google obscure way of labelling emails? Or is there another way of migrating away from gmail?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks, Fred Gjoertz.

The system is Fedora 35, the Thunderbird level is 91.1. This is an upgrade from FC32. I was unable to upgrade using the normal Fedora upgrade process so I created a new install into a dedicated root directory. Normally the home directory is a separate partition. In order to have the user ids and group ids match theose in the home partition new users were created to match those ids in the home directory. When this was completed the new install /home was deleted and the fc32 home partition mounted on /home. Additionally /etc/fstab was updated to support mounting on reboot. Evetything worked as intended. All directories and files were accessable. Thunderbird e-mail config and e-mail history came across as intended. The only thing that did not come across were the calendar entries and calendar functions. Additionall the calendar is locked out, no new entries can be created. All the options in the options bar are greyed out. There are no calendar options in e-mails. The calendar appears but is totally 'dead' for a better description. The above is also true for tasks. I assume this is a residural from brining the calendar through multiple levels without going thourgh level upgrade scripts. I have removed lightening and I have removed and installed thunderbird; neither of these had any effect. A vialble option is to erase the calendar entries from .mozilla and start fresh. I am assuming this would rebuild the canledar on restart. I am uncertain how to do this. I do not want to erase the e-mail history.

Thunderbird stopped downloading new message 3 days ago 5/16/22. I tried a bunch of stuff, all failed. Finally, I deinstalled Thunderbird and deleted my profiles. I reinstalled Thunderbird and created a new account (gmail). The automatic configuration reported "Checking password ..." PASSED. Next it reported "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password"

I am using IMAP:

 imap.gmail.com, 993, SSL/TLS, OAuth2
 smtp.gmail.com, 465, SSL/TLS, OAuth2

I tried changing authentication method to normal password, no luck. I am able to log in to gmail. My account is set to allow unsecure applications.

Any ideas what is going on?

Hello,

I've started using Thunderbird with my new ProtonMail account, because it's very useful for dealing with large numbers of emails.

However, something odd has happened. Some emails are showing as having been received very recently, despite them arriving in my inbox about 6-8 years ago. It isn't all emails, just a few (unless there are more that don't stand out so conspicuously - there are about 80k of them lol). And as you'll see in the screenshots, it's not like the date isn't recognised. It has the original date there, somewhere, but it still messes up.

Also, it's fine when I use the PM website to check my emails. It's just in Thunderbird.

I'll attach some screenshots to show you what I mean.

Thanks

I've been using Thunderbird for years, always storing message on my machine. My local profile folder is now 2.3GB with 14,191 files in 688 folders. I suspect there is a lot of "orphaned" junk there. Most suspicious are hundreds of folders and files in subfolders named Cache and Cache.Trash, all dated in 2017. There is a cache2 folder that appears to be current.

I also have several other folders/files with dates (modified) back in 2017 and 2018, apparently no longer in use. I'm migrating to a new machine and would like to avoid junk if it's really junk. Is there a "cleanup" tool, or any guidance on how to identify and delete orphans?

Or... is there a way to "export" all and then "import" on a new machine. I've seen the migrate video, but it just tells how to copy/paste everything.
