I just upgraded to Mac's latest OS 14.0 (Sonoma.) Thunderbird will not load. When I run the application I get a beachball and an "application) is not responding" message. I have tried rebooting and all the "typical fixes.)

Is there an update coming? Something that I can delete to make Thunderbird work?

I just want all of my folders and sub-folders to have the same display columns! With 115, you can change any folder or sub-folder to any column organization you want, but I want them all the same. 115 changed my display columns - why couldn't you leave them alone, Thunderbird??? I can go in and change them back manually, so why were they changed at all??? I don't want to have to change each folder and its child folders individually - I have a few dozen folders, most with dozens of sub-folders. I tried the "Apply columns to ..." and selected Local Folders to change them all - none of them changed! I saw the video from Castellani claiming that TB tried to make sure that upgrading wouldn't take hours to reconfigure back to a usable state, but that's obviously not true if you have more than the one or two folders shown in the video.

Mozilla/Thunderbird -- Is it so hard to leave things as they are and just TELL us there are new features available, if we want them, instead of DESTROYING our well-used setups and forcing us to come here in hopes that someone can save us from hours of tedium just to be productive again?

Thanks to anyone who can save those of us who just want our setups back the way they were!

I would really appreciate any thoughts on resolving the items below even if I do have to be chastised for not finding the solutions for myself. Thunderbird is running on a Windows 10 PC.

Whilst I appreciate the new ability to change the "spacing" between compact, default and relaxed I would appreciate knowing why it was not possible to change incrementally like we can now change Font Size?? There was a fix for this in previous versions which allowed me to display all of the folders that I wanted to display.

Why can the number of messages headers displayed only be 9 or more?

Why does the message header pane above the email content still have so much white space? It would still be totally readable if laid out in a different manner with much smaller line spacing.

I would also like to know why I cannot now have the likes of "get messages" in the menu bar? The current setup forces 2 toolbars or I can switch off the menu. I have had the 2 combined for some time.

With all the "improvements", why is there still no facility to order folders rather than having them alphabetically listed? The add-on to do this no longer works.

As you will guess, I am not best pleased with the changes in SuperNova as it has changed too many of the things that I have taken fore-granted over the years.

My thanks in advance for anything helpful the community is able to offer.

==================================

Have had to add an up date as I am still finding things that seem to no longer be possible.

The "Get Messages" button no longer has the drop down to allow getting new messages from one email address.

When displaying a folder's contents, the message bar at the bottom of the page no longer displays the message count. I know it can be displayed elsewhere on the screen but that takes up real-estate.

The hover and open nested folders is now instant which is a real nuisance as rolling the mouse cursor down the page opens a lot more nested folders than just the one I need.

With 102, if you used CTRL+ to magnify the content of an email, the magnification applied to all windows, for example if you opened a message full screen - not any more, they have been separated. Close the full screen window and it reverts to default size if you open to full screen again.

It is difficult to go back to version 102.15 because to do so needs a "new profile" because 115 changes the original and Thunderbird cannot cope with this.

I would love to know what prompted all of these changes as they have ruined my experience of what has been my go-to email client since version 3?

I recently noticed that Thunderbird quietly updated itself from 102.15.1 to 115.3.1 for me today. (I'm on Win 10)

After this, none of the emails in my imap.gmail.com mail account are viewable: My 'Inbox' shows 2 email accounts underneath and selecting the gmail one shows a big list of messages but opening (double-clicking) any of them just opens a new tab that remains entirely empty.

Emails for the other Inbox account do correctly show messages in a new tab when opening, as things were previously.

The Tools > Developer Tools > Error Console shows the following errors (after having first cleared the log and then restarted Tb) - NotFoundError: No such JSWindowActor 'DevToolsFrame' Assert failed: Calendar manager initialised calendars before loadCalendarComponent ran on the first 3pane window. This should not happen.

calUtils.jsm:127:15

NotFoundError: No such JSWindowActor 'DevToolsFrame'

I found recent posts for similar sounding issues (but not quite the same). One suggested deleting 'folderCache.json', 'session.json', and 'xulstore.json' files from my thunderbird profile folder and restarting. I tried and it had no noticeable effect.

I can't be sure whether it was there before but after the problem update, I notice I have 2 instances of my gmail address showing under the 'Sent' tray/group. Under sent it lists 2 x my gmail.com account and my other account. Again, the other account's sent mails can be viewed just fine as before but the first '...@gmail.com' account list most (perhaps all) of my sent emails, but opening any of them just brings up a totally blank new tab again.

Interestingly, however, the other (new?) duplicate '...@gmail.com' under the Sent group also shows a big list of sent emails and this one does correctly show all messages when viewing any in a new tab. The properties of both of these identical-looking 'sent' mailboxes ('x'-ing out my email) are - 1st - Location: imap://xxxxxxxxx%40gmail.com@imap.gmail.com/Sent Showing 267 sent messages Doesn't work. Viewing any of the messages just shows a blank tab. 2nd - Location: imap://xxxxxxxxx%40gmail.com@imap.gmail.com/%5BGmail%5D/Sent%20Mail Showing 283 sent messages Works. Viewing any of these opens a tab that correctly shows the message. To my knowledge, I've not added the second almost identical 'sent' gmail account.

The location of the newly broken @gmail.com Inbox is - Location: imap://xxxxxxxxxx%40gmail.com@imap.gmail.com/INBOX

The fact that one of the gmail.com sent lists/view works and the other doesn't suggests something might be wrong with the 1st 'location' format. I've not touched either for as long as I can remember. Could the upgrade have diddled the 'location' in such a way as to cause this behaviour or also duplicated a subtly different gmail.com 'Sent' folder?

The main Tools > Account Settings does not appear to have a field that directly specified any of the 'Inbox' or 'Sent' Location fields that I can see; it just list my 2 email accounts, with my now broken gmail.com one listed first, with server settings - - Type: IMAP mail server - Server Name: imap.gmail.com - User Name: xxxxxxxxxx@gmail.com - Port: 993 - Connection security: SSL/TLS - Authentication method: OAuth2

Can anyone explain where the subtly different 'Sent' gmail entries might have come from and whether either of the 'Location' fields look invalid? Also, since my gmail Inbox 'Location' looks to have a similar format of that of the broken 'Sent' item/folder, does anyone know whether it is invalid and can be fixed with a different location field?

Thunderbird just upgraded to "Supernova". I hate it. I'm trying to adjust as many things as I can to make it look normal, but I'm stuck on the font. How can I change the display font used so that my folders and email information (NOT the font used in email messages themselves) is different from the default?

Also, is there any way to change the density or size of just one pane? My email list is too cramped, but if I try to change the size or the density, it changes the the all the panes, and so then my folder list looks way to spread out.

I managed to revert back to Thunderbird 102 after my system automatically updated to Supernova, which I absolutely detested. Everything is back to the way it was except for the fonts Thunderbird is using for the folder pane and the pane that lists all my emails in whatever folder I'm viewing. The font used now seems to be the one that Supernova uses, and reverting to 102 didn't change it back. How do I change the font in these panes?

With "Unread Messages" filter and "Order By -> Group By Thread" both enabled, the threaded message view does not display the most recent message in Inbox. When a new reply arrives to the already displayed thread, it is hidden underneath the packed mail thread in message list and the user is unaware of having a more recent reply already available there. After clicking another mail thread and then back again, the most recent reply is still not shown in the message preview sub-window.

I am using the new default "card" view with Thunderbird 115.

Just went from 105 to 115. Two things that are bothering me are

- the unread messages now with a large dark circle draws my attention. The old just number was there when I needed it but not in my face like the current UI. I find it quite distracting.

- Similarly in 102 there was the archive, delete etc right above the list of mail. Now that is at the very top away from its context and displacing the menus which most windows programs (if they have that menu bar) have at the very top. So I am forced to look away from where I am working to go find say the archive button whereas previous it was right in front of me. Any way to get the UI back?

Hi,

I'm trying to diagnose a random problem I'm having (SOME emails I delete disappear from the inbox and 5 seconds later they reappear).

I can't predict when this will happen, so I'd like to just send logging data to a file. I followed the instructions at https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging and no log file is created.

I set mailnews.imap.loglevel to "All" (without quote marks).

Still no log file and looking at the Error Console, as I gleaned from another reply on this forum, yields nothing whenever I delete an email (whether successfully or not).

Thanks!

Would it be possible for me to Roll Back to the previous v115 ?

Uncertain as to the version ‘points’ of my previous install, but I keep up with most updates, so it would have been August’s version most likely.

Sorry for any typos; my aim has been dodgy since my last eye op.

I have 2 problems with the TB Inbox.

1. When a message is marked as read and I go to another folder, the message is gone when I return to the inbox. The missing message is not in trash or any other folder. Edit> Undo Delete Message does not recover the message either.

2. The Inbox header shows 216 messages but the Inbox is empty and contains no messages.

Using Repair Folder does not sole the problems. There are no add-ons in place.

Any suggestions on how to resolve these issues would be appreciated.

Today when I opened Thunderbird it upgraded to the new version, 115.3.0 (32-bit). I noticed a serious bug in the compose window. When I resize the window to about 1/4 of the width of the screen (which enables me to see other windows at the same time as writing) the text I write continues off the window on the right, and the vertical scrollbar is also off-screen. If I increase the width of the compose window to about 2/5 of the screen the end of each line reappears and the vertical scrollbar becomes visible.

Please fix this bug in an update.

I run Windows 10, if that is important.

Hi Community, i wanted to ask wether it normal that Thunderbird 115 needs 60 seconds to load the interface? When it starts it shows my personalised theme and an empty space for a whole minute. (i measured it)

Directly after installation everything was fine. But now i have set up my acconts and rearranged some buttons. Is there maybe a problem with Exchange synchronisation on startup? Both of my accounts are provided by Exchange servers.

Folders missing from folder pane in Unified Folders mode

The latest version of thunderbird 115.3.0 (54-bit) has rearranged my folders, and the junkmail folders for all my email addresses no longer exists. This is very alarming, but what is worse is that the trash folder for some email addresses no longer exists, which means as soon as I delete an email it is permenently gone. And some of my email addresses no longer have a 'sent' folder which means that after I have sent an email, there is no record of the email after it is sent. This is very concerning.

There is folder called 'junk' which should have 100s of emails in it, but it say there are only 17, When I select it, there are no emails there. The 'Drafts' folder only has some of my email addresses.

I would post a screenshot, but it would reveal all my email addresses.

The more I am looking into solving this the more I have discovered that thousands of my emails have disappeared. Especially those I have sent. I am devistated. These are my records.

How can I roll back to when thunderbird was reliable, and is there any way of salvaging this catastophe? And how can I trust thunderbird again, which was at one time most reliable?

I have tried the following advice I sought on bing:

To restore the Junk folder, you can go to Tools > Options > Security > Junk and check the box that says “Move new junk messages to”. Then, select “Other” and choose the Junk folder from the list. This will enable the Junk folder again and move any spam messages there. You can also right-click on any message and mark it as junk or not junk to train the filter. FAILED - IT HAS NOT RESTORED THE JUNK FOLDER

To restore the Sent folder, you can go to Tools > Account Settings > Copies & Folders and check the box that says “Place a copy in”. Then, select “Other” and choose the Sent folder from the list. This will enable the Sent folder again and save a copy of any messages you send there. You can also drag and drop any messages from your local folders to the Sent folder if you want to move them. LIMITED SUCCESS - 2 SENT FOLDERS HAVE BEEN RESTORED. Several have not been able to be restored using this method.

Another annoying change: It has put the 'File, Edit, View, Go, Message, etc' Tool bar under the 'Get Messages, Write, Reply etc" Tool bar. They should be the other way round.

I really hope all this can be solved.

Just updated OS to Ventura. Downloaded T-bird 115.0. All good. Using System Dark mode.

However, I find the black BG too harsh in the inbox window. NOT the message window in the bottom half; the list of emails in the highlighted folder.

I looked everywhere and can't kind a way to change that BG colour. I want to reduce the contrast a little to make it easier to read. Definitely don't want to go back to Light mode: everything is too white.

Thoughts?
