Could you turn on logging, reproduce the issue while logging is enabled, and save a copy of the logs? Those can be extremely useful while debugging.

After you do that, let's try reinstalling FPN.

• Hold CTRL + SHIFT + A to pull up your add-ons page.
• Click the three dots next to the Firefox Private Network add-on and select Remove.
• Head to the FPN Page and redownload and add it to Firefox.

Now test it again to see if you're having the same issue with your pinned tabs failing to load.

Thank you for your reply. I'm sorry but I have been busy and haven't gotten to performing these measures. However, I will, and I will respond.

As I look at this reply page, I don't see how to attach those logs. What am I supposed to do with them? How do I get back to my original question so I can update it, or will this reply take me there? Do I use this same page and post the log files using the "Add images" and "Browse..." functions at bottom?

That's no problem. The easiest way to attach the logs would most likely be to use a text hosting site, such as Pastebin, and copy and paste the text from the logs on there and then share a link here. Don't worry about updating the original post, as long as it's in this thread it's okay.

Let me know whether you got these okay. When I quit terminal, it might have changed them, because it closed FF that was open. However, when I re-opened FF, the two pinned tabs I had failed again. Usually the pinned tab for Gmail also fails, but it didn't this morning, maybe because I had already used it before closing FF and going to Terminal. Also, usually the non-pinned tab for Duckduckgo loads, but sometimes it fails, too.

Let me know whether these were successful and helpful.

Thank you! However, there should be a specific log text file named something along the lines of log.text-main. Could you copy the contents of this text file and put them on Pastebin as well?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling FPN yet to see if that helps the issue? I would also double check that the tabs still have loading issues while FPN is uninstalled just to ensure this is an FPN bug and not something wrong with the browser itself.

I followed the instructions at https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Debugging/HTTP_logging however, I can't turn logging on/off and reproduce the bug as shown in 'Using about:networking,' because the bug occurs upon startup. So, instead, I used the Terminal command for mac osX as shown in the section below that, which is 'Logging HTTP activity by manually setting environment variables before startup.'

I have again uploaded the logs to https://pastebin.com/QCiZPiJM , but I can assure you that this method does not put a main log file on the desktop. I went to about:networking, but I don't remember how to change to the var/folders/0s/.... directory -- I haven't done Unix since early 2012. I searched in Finder and used the Mac osX GUI for Finder but I couldn't find it there.

Those instructions say, "5. Adjust the list of modules that you want to log: this list has the exact same format as the MOZ_LOG environment variable (see below). Generally the default list is OK, unless a Mozilla developer has told you to modify it....," and, "Go to the folder containing the specified log file, and gather all the log files. You will see several files that look like: log.txt-main.1806,...." Problem is, they don't say HOW to go to there. If you can tell me what name to give to the main log file I will add it to the list so it shows on the Desktop, and then try the Terminal-and-startup approach again.

Meanwhile, I will re-install the VPN.

Please note that when I opened FF this morning with the Terminal logging in effect, the pinned tabs failed again; but when i uninstalled FF VPN and restarted it, they loaded okay.

And now the new problem is that I can't turn the VPN on. At first, it was showing orange, so I clicked on it, and it wanted me to sign in to my FF account, even though my browser was still signed in. The large spinner in the window keept spinning, then it dies or if I click on the Sign In block, it either spins and times out, or it just says "Doink!" and either disappears or does nothing.

Gone from a minor annoyance to a major issue -- now it IS broken.

And now it won't stop re-opening & jumping to the Sign In separate window, but if I click on Sign On, it just disappears, then reappears soon! It's looping.

I'll have to uninstall it to stop this ANNOYING misbehavior.

Hi mjrs, I haven't tried using Firefox VPN, but I am aware of a difference between pinned tabs and regular tabs when you restore your previous session:

• Regular tabs: only the contents of the active tab are restored automatically (the others load when you display them)
• Pinned tabs: the contents of all pinned tabs are restored automatically

Perhaps Firefox is trying to restore pinned tab contents too soon, before a network connection is established??

To make pinned tabs behave more like regular tabs at session restore:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste demand and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.sessionstore.restore_pinned_tabs_on_demand preference to switch the value from false to true

After checking with our team, it looks like this looping issue is a known bug that should be resolved shortly in a future update to FPN.

I would recommend currently leaving it disabled in about:addons, and I'll let you know as soon as a patch is released so you can update it and continue participating in the beta.

In the meantime, an alternative option is to use the Windscribe Add-on. It's an in-browser VPN service with a free-tier that a lot of our users like to use, but I would recommend looking further into it to form your own thoughts on whether or not it's a good choice for you.

Apparently they have fixed the looping, as the VPN is now working again. Pinned tabs still fail upon opening, but I'll put up with that rather than totally break it again. They load fine if you try them again. Thanks for trying to help me.

I thought about Windscreen, but now that Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 has warp working, I've enabled that on our phones and on my wife's iPad, but warp doesn't work on desktops yet.

I'm sorry we were unable to fix the issue with your pinned tabs not loading, but I'm glad that you're actually able to use FPN again. I'll keep you posted on anything I learn about resolving the tab issue.
