Opening PDFs automatically with Firefox and, without any changes I might make, saving them with the download function in Firefox, actually ruins the functionality and data entry function of that file. Specifically this happens with PDF files downloaded from the (not all that amusing) PDFs from the FINCEN, (US Financial Crimes Enforcement Network). I do not see why and how Firefox thinks it is allowed to change files that are simply downloaded and saved on Firefox.

In other words, it seems that Firefox strips away certain "permissions" and/or "functions" (like built-in lookup, menu or choice boxes). This means that the file so downloaded via Firefox can no longer be used to properly fill in data, or to look up and choose data items within the file. (I see many times that ANYTHING having to do with "permissions" tends to be an intractable and unsolvable problem for software makers & experts, so, if you do not know right away how to solve the problem, it will probably take you several years to figure this out.)

The PDF in question is created by a government agency. If you have ever dealt with a government agency, then you know that they act sort of like Adobe or Microsoft: "They don't respond, or they do respond & say they do not understand, and if they understand, they are either unwilling or unable to fix the problem."

If there is a switch or option within Firefox, which lets me tell Firefox "Save this file exactly like it is received, nothing added or removed!", that would be nice. I just have not found such an option yet, and it would be nice if it might get provided someday.

I will share my browser data, but I am sort of convinced that a detailed question like mine will not be addressed within that shared data.

I am getting messages that I am blocking ads for many of my internet requests. I had never received these before but all of a sudden I started to get them. I have tried a number of things but nothing works.

I am running Windows 11 and do not have any Ad blockers.

Environment:

  Windows 11 Pro, Version 25H2, Updated windows (include KB5074109) on Jan 16, 2026.
  Firefox version 107.0  

Issue:

  Firefox freeze shortly (e.g. after play YouTube video for less than a couple minutes, just browser YouTube videos for a while, or just open about:preferences page).
  
  I installed  Firefox 147.0.1. Same issue. 

  Hover cursor to Firefox, it becomes busy (blue spinner)

  Note: Firefox works fine before the windows update. Chrome exits suddenly after the update too.

Task Manager: shows 15 FireFox processors with 0% CPU usage.

App is unusable. Freezes up frequently. Tried downloading again. Same problem. I am using Chrome temporarily and it is working just fine. Also ran Safari, no problem. Used it to download ESR 115. Worked fine. Definitely a Firefox problem.

Since updating to last version, when trying to access my two banking accounts, on different banks, the send button, when entering my user and password, doesn't do anyting. All other buttons and links respond.

1/19/26 I have used Firefox for years and now it looks like Microsoft Bing has taken over and I cannot get Firefox back. It installs to a certain point and stops. Can you help me? email: [edited email from community support forum]

Good afternoon. When I try to send an email link from the Firefox the default comes up with the "New Outlook." I would like to use Outlook Classic as I have in the past. In your default there is now way to choose Outlook Classic only the "New Outlook." Is there a work-around to this. Thank you!

G morning. Bookmarks lost and impossible to restore or even to create new one. Tried your suggestions to fix it but impossible. I restarted program and PC a few times, no change.

I downloaded a new version of Firefox but same problem and same error message about the bookmarks not available (and impossible to create / add new one). Import old bookmarks impossible, folder not available on desktop. 

Do I have to take a new browser after 20 years of happiness with Firefox ? Thank you

today I tried using a link from discord to go to a site. a window I was unfamiliar with stating it was firefox told me to pick a profile. I had 2 at that point but I saw none at that point. I ignored it and did nothing. I restarted my computer later on after a file browser issue and when I tried to find my profiles and my last session I found nothing. my entire fire fox account has been wiped and I only have a single profile in my app data thats onlder than 2026. I have no idea whats happened.

I have a Mac with Sequoia update but my Mac is not good with memory so when I have a new install version it will probably crash my Mac. How might I stop automatic installation by Firefox?

My Bookmarks Sidebar is now displaying with white lettering on a very light gray background, making it almost impossible to read. How can I change either the font color in the sidebar, or the background color?

I've tried a few other pkcs11.so's on other paths and FireFox just immediately crashes. This one it at least says it can't add it. The module is owned by root and has 644 permissions so I think it should be readable. Brave Browser is working well with cert auth via CAC and I already have the machine fully set up with logging in via CAC, locking screen automatically when CAC is removed, etc etc so I know that at a base level the CAC is working well. Just can't seem to find the proper link glue.

This is NOT the snap version of Firefox either, I am pretty sure. sudo snap firefox commands say firefox isn't installed.

I can't get my original profile 1 to show the original background color. This suggests I don't really have my original profile, I do prefer a white background rather than the iky red/maroon color.

When my laptop is connect to a monitor via HDMI cable, the resolution on Firefox switches between what my laptop is at when not plugged in and the current monitor's resolution. It almost looks like Firefox is hiccuping between resolutions. This last for a few seconds and happens frequently within the hour. How can I stop Firefox from being confused about the resolution it's supposed to be at?

Hello, I just completed a wipe of my whole device, beforehand I obviously signed up and synced up my Firefox account to keep my boomarks and data. After reinstalling Firefox I managed to sign in, sync up and get my bookmarks back - great. However after reopening of the app they were gone again and when checking back-ups the only available one was from after the "automatic wipe". I quickly checked my mobile Firefox app as well - it still showed a bigger of number of bookmarks so I had hoped they stayed at least there but after entering the folder they appeared empty and then gone completely after re-entering. Please if possible assist, it seems like Firefox decided to overwrite this data so maybe it's still somehow recoverable as these bookmarks have been collected over the years. Thank you in advance.
