Aim: The goal is to disable Private Browsing mode in Firefox, ensuring that it cannot be used on the system.

I have spent hours on this. With no luck.

1. 1. 1. Steps Attempted:

1. **Adjusting Settings**:

  - Open Firefox.
  - Click on the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) in the top-right corner.
  - Select "Options" or "Settings".
  - Go to "Privacy & Security".
  - Uncheck the box next to "Always use private browsing mode".
  - Restart Firefox.

2. **Modifying History Settings**:

  - Open Firefox.
  - Click on the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) in the top-right corner.
  - Select "Options" or "Settings".
  - Go to "Privacy & Security".
  - Scroll down to the "History" section.
  - Change the setting to "Use custom settings for history".
  - Uncheck the box next to "Always use private browsing mode".
  - Restart Firefox.

3. **Using about:config**:

  - Open Firefox.
  - Type `about:config` in the address bar and press `Enter`.
  - Accept the Risk and Continue.
  - Search for `browser.privatebrowsing.autostart`.
  - Double-click on it to change the value to `false`.
  - Restart Firefox.

4. **Creating a New Firefox Profile**:

  - Open Firefox.
  - Type `about:profiles` in the address bar and press `Enter`.
  - Click on "Create a New Profile" and follow the prompts.
  - Launch the new profile in a new browser.
  - Go to "Privacy & Security" settings and ensure "Always use private browsing mode" is unchecked.
  - Restart Firefox.

5. **Refreshing Firefox**:

  - Open Firefox.
  - Click on the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) in the top-right corner.
  - Select "Help" and then "More Troubleshooting Information".
  - Click on "Refresh Firefox" and confirm.
  - Firefox will reset to default settings and restart.

6. **Checking Firefox Policies**:

  - Open Firefox.
  - Type `about:policies` in the address bar and press `Enter`.
  - Review any active policies that might be enforcing Private Browsing mode.

7. **Uninstalling and Reinstalling Firefox**:

  - Uninstall Firefox from your system.
  - Download the latest version from Mozilla's official Firefox download page.
  - Reinstall Firefox and check if the issue is resolved.

8. **Registry Edit (Windows)**:

  - Press **`Win + R`** to open the Run dialog.
  - Type **`regedit`** and press **`Enter`** to open the Registry Editor.
  - Navigate to the following key:
    ```
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Mozilla\Firefox
    ```
    - If the `Mozilla` or `Firefox` keys do not exist, you'll need to create them:
      - Right-click on the **`Policies`** key.
      - Select **`New > Key`**.
      - Name the new key **`Mozilla`**.
      - Right-click on the **`Mozilla`** key.
      - Select **`New > Key`**.
      - Name the new key **`Firefox`**.
  - Right-click on the **`Firefox`** key.
  - Select **`New > DWORD (32-bit) Value`**.
  - Name the new value **`DisablePrivateBrowsing`**.
  - Double-click on the **`DisablePrivateBrowsing`** value.
  - Set the "Value data" to **`1`**.
  - Click **`OK`** to save the changes.
  - Restart your computer to apply the changes.

These steps represent a comprehensive attempt to disable Private Browsing mode in Firefox.

I keep getting '500 error' when trying to login to my Evergy account. The Evergy support was helpful so I could use Google Chrome however I would like to use my Firefox browser. They had me clear browser history, cookies and other site data and cached images and files. Then restart the Google Chrome browser. How can I get the same data cleared in Firefox?

I have used the privacy and security settings in Firefox and cleared cache and history and cookies, but still can't log into my account.

I have been unable to retrieve at&t emails today. I have been able to access them through Copilot, but cannot get Mozilla to open my AT&T page. I contacted AT&T and once they say the emails would pop up via Copilot they could offer no solution. Any suggestions?

I get this multiple times per week and then have to delete all amazon.com cookies and relogin to everything.

Hoping someone has a solution as I would prefer to continue to use Firefox but this is getting very annoying.

Hi, I have recently found some features of GMail are not working in Firefox. File attachments fail to attach, the spellchecker , though selected in settings, won't check spelling to name but two. I have disable the ad blocker but no change. The same GMail account works fine in MS Edge. I would welcome suggestions to resolve these issues as I much prefer working in Firefox. Thank you.

W11, FF set as defailt browser, installed from Mozilla sites (.exe)

Any links from Whatsapp or Messenger app (and some others, but it is very likely the same issue) open in MS Edge. I found some WI to change the "microsoft-egde URL" default app, but I do not have that option. Only Edge is offered or I have to go to store and Install FF from there. Is there a way around it? My main concern is I am biuit scared to install it from MS Store as there are for sure some limitations and I might loose my opened windows and tabs...

I get this error message when trying to access a web page that is served from tomcat 9.0.8 SSL_ERROR_NO_CYPHER_OVERLAP using FireFox v135 (I upgraded to this version because I had the same issue with previous versions.

I am trying to access it locally on the server were tomcat is installed with a firefox browser version 135.0 I do not get this error when using Chrome v 132 or Edge v 132

I do not like these browsers and do not wish to use them, but the prompt me that the site is not secure and allow me to go there anyway... How do I get Firefox to behave the same?

I cannot post an Ad on Kijiji while using Firefox, tried 10 times...but it works fine with Google Chrome.

And I would like to know how to remove the "secure" word in the URL I use for Royal Bank...it was not there with previous version of Firefox....I'd sure like to go back a few months ago...it was always Firefox the best

Hi,

I am in the pharmaceutical industry and using ectd program, which is producing an xml backbone (directories) containing pharmaceutical information (pdfs). Only internet explorer can show this. Chrome has recently lost this ability. Firefox shows only some headings, like reading the index.xml only and not detecting the other directories. Is there an option/addon so I can view the contents correctly? I cannot attach the export of the ectd program (index.html & backbone/directories) so you can see to what I refer to, only the pics.

I have read elsewhere here in the Support Forum that "browser.shopping.experience2023 prefs" in about:config allow for the disabling of Firefox Review Checker. Alas, there are quite a few of them there! What specific preferences -- and what specific values thereof -- are required to disable the Review Checker in FF 133.0?

I will add that it would be terrific if one could accomplish the same goal via FF Settings.

Since new Firefox / Mozilla download - can no longer open yahoo mail and several other sites? Why? This includes the Wall Street Journal and an AOL account. Why won't they open? What can I do to fix it? Or should I just stop using Firefox and just use Safari?

I have a number in a circle showing up on the Firefox icon on my taskbar. For a while it was a number 1, then that went away. Now I have a number 5 in a circle on the icon.

I am having a problem with Firefox losing or not updating some saved passwords. It has always worked seamlessly in the past, but in the past couple of weeks (January 2025), several sites that I regularly visit and have saved passwords for (nothing financial; I never save that stuff) have not auto-populated the password field and I have had to change passwords. I did this on one site a couple of days ago, using my mobile and tablet (both Firefox web browsers), but when I went to log in to that site on my desktop Firefox browser today, it had not updated the password, and even when I typed in the new password, Firefox did not offer - as it normally would - to update the saved password. I was logged in to Firefox at the time, so my account was live. Anyone else having this problem? Or know why it's happening?
