I had a PC with Win7 and a current Firefox version. The motherboard failed and I replaced the PC. I have the old HD and can access files via USB. I am looking at the HD on another PC and cannot locate the places.sqlite file the instructions refer to. Further I don't know what I would do with it.

I would like to get the cookies, passwords and bookmarks to install into the replacement unit, Win8.

You need to look into %users%\%your user name%\AppData\(Roaming or Local) \Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

Actually once you get past %users%\%your user name%\AppData\, I would say you are pretty much there. Namely, I dont know, if the system will allow you to look into these subdirectories, even if you do that as administrator.

Keep us posted.

The AppData folder is hidden. You can switch Windows from hiding to showing hidden files.

The places.sqlite database file contains both bookmarks and history. If you do not need history, it would be easier to restore the latest .json file from the bookmarkbackups folder.
