I've never had much problems out of FireFox until the other day when it upgraded to the latest version (14.0.1) When it first opened up it was working.. but when you close the browser and want to open it up again.. it immediately freezes. Rebooting the PC does not even fix this. Firefox still locks up after a reboot. The only way to fix this problem is to uninstall FireFox and reinstall it. And even then, the same thing happens.. it works the first time.. and when you exit out of it completely, the next time you want to open FireFox, it will immediately freeze and the only way out is Ctrl ALT DELETE.

Can someone help me get FireFox to work again please?

Hi,

You can consider the Reset Firefox feature via Help (Alt + H) > Troubleshooting Information.

(To revert to the previous profile, close the new profile, start Firefox and choose the *.default profile. While the Profile Manager is open, you can also delete the newly reset profile (the one containing random numbers)).

Managing profiles

Profiles Howto

If you have security software (antivirus, firewall etc.) installed, you can try deleting all existing instances of Firefox and related files in all the different configuration areas/modules of the security software. Instead create new allow/trusted rules for Firefox + its related processes. Even otherwise the security software may also ask again when Firefox is started and you can try to allow/trust at that time. Please see this.

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?

And don't think I have any antivirus ever running.. but I do use MalwayreBytes from time to time

Did you try a new profile?

Are you keeping a large history or have a lot bookmarks?

Such issues can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can try to check and repair the places database with this extension:

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

I can't even create a new profile.. When I open the profile manager and click create profile, then click Next, it just disappears and goes away.

Try to disable Flash Extension if you use it. I had a similar problem. Immediately after starting the ff freezes for a few minutes.

I had been using version 14.0.1 for a while before it recently began freezing immediately upon startup. Once the homepage opens (Google) in the browser, I am unable to even click any buttons, tabs or links. It's completely frozen! I went into Control Panel (Windows 7) to try and uninstall it but a window comes up while trying to uninstall, saying I need to first close the browser before continuing with the uninstall--even though I have no browsers open and nothing appears running in the Task Manager. Both Chrome and IE work fine. HELP!
