Firefox has 2 default profiles, how do i know which one is actually in use?

have to reinstall firefox due to "something trying to trick firefox into updating...."

help section says to save the profile before deleting, but i have two, i could save both, but want to know if i can delete one of the profiles to leave just one on its own.

Check the dates on the files. The one you've used recently will be much more up-to-date.

But there's no harm in making a backup of both of them.

This issue can be caused by the presence of leftover files in the Firefox program folder (defaults\pref) like a file firefox.js that overrides the update URL with a wrong link.
Do a clean reinstall and be sure to remove the Firefox program folder.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

Use this to access the current Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

of course the dates! scrapped the others now and renamed the proper one so i cant get confused again.
