Do you mean the tabs you last had open ("session restore") or the tabs you open at startup (home page) or your Bookmarks? Actually, all of these settings are stored in your profile folder. For more information:

What I am trying to recover is the tab list, not the bookmarks. This is the list of websites which you can access by clicking on the arrows at the right of the tab bar. Note that I completely deleted the previous firefox program without making a new profile. Thanks.

When I click the little downward-pointing triangle at the right end of the tab bar I get a list of currently open tabs. While your browser is open, this is stored in the sessionstore.js file in your profile folder. Firefox will give you the option on the next startup to restore that session.

I can't tell from your posts whether you still have a copy of that file from several days ago, or whether it was deleted when you removed Firefox, or it might already have been overwritten by a new session. Please look for your profile folder or folders, and see whether you have it.

Even if it is impossible to resume your session where you left it, you might be able to find your way back to those sites using

History > Show All History

if you are working with the same profile you had before (and you don't clear your history quickly).

jscher2000,

Thanks for the replies and help. Somehow we are not communicating my problem. Instead of saving websites to bookmarks, I just dragged them to the bar or 'list' to the right side on top of the tab bar. After I closed them, they were still in the list. Anyway, I had about 40 sites in this list that I have lost and can't seem to find them in the profile, not under the files you listed. I think they are gone with the past deleted Firefox program. They were just reference sites I used on occasion. When I clicked on them they would open up in the tab bar. Any other ideas? Thanks again.

Okay, I think you're talking about what Firefox calls the Bookmarks Toolbar. When you have more bookmarks than will fit, a double >> appears and that has a drop-down list. Am I getting warmer?

You can display the Bookmarks Toolbar using

View menu > Toolbars > Bookmarks Toolbar

(If you have the orange Firefox button, tap the Alt key or press F10 to display the classic menu bar.)

If that bar doesn't have your bookmarks any more, please see the above article from cor-el on recovering lost bookmarks.
