I want to use the web page icon as the default shortcut icon. When searching the internet and Firefox databases, they all say things like: "While still holding the mouse button down, move the pointer to the desktop, then release the mouse button. The shortcut will be created."

But the web page shortcut icon (the one that shows to the left of the URL) reverts to the Firefox icon after I drag it to the desktop. I am using Windows 7 and XP (on another computer). Both operating systems do this. This happens with both Firefox and IE. In previous versions of web browsers I could just drag and drop to the desktop and get the web page icons as the shortcut icons.

I don't want to do all this favicon crap (as suggested in some solutions). I want to force my browser to use the web page icon as the default shortcut icon. It is MY COMPUTER, not Firefox's. I should decide what icons are used. If all the icons look like the Firefox globe, how do you know which one to click on!!!???
