Loading crazy illegible font

Yesterday FF started loading certain fonts as... this. As far as I can tell, it's only serif fonts that are affected. I checked to make sure that my font preferences were in order (they were). I tried restarting FF (that worked at first, then it came back after a few minutes). This just started happening several days after I last updated any add-ons. I made a new profile which seemed to work, but in the process of writing this, I realized I needed to log into my default profile to get the right troubleshooting information. Having logged back in, everything seems to be working, but I'm paranoid that it's going to revert back to whatever was happening. Help?

You can do a check for corrupted fonts and other font issues:
- http://www.creativetechs.com/iq/garbled_fonts_troubleshooting_guide.html - CreativeTechs Tips: Garbled Fonts Troubleshooting Guide

No damaged fonts that I can find (I also tried changing my default serif font, which didn't help). Cleared font cache to no avail. Restarting temporarily fixes the problem, but then it reverts for no reason that I can see. One minute everything is fine, then I click on a link and it loads garbled. The same pages will load fine one minute, then messed up the next. Everything loads fine in Safari.

Fixed it! I recently downloaded (but didn't yet install...) a bunch of fonts and had them sitting on my desktop. One of them was the godforsaken font in the screenshot, and FF was using it whenever a website called for Arial. Weird. I deleted the offending file and all is well.
