Previously, with older versions of Firefox, clicking on a wave file would open the wave file in the windows application that is registered for opening wave files. This was also the behavior with other audio files.

Now, it only offers to download the file which is incorrect behavior, the file just is needed for now and after now has passed, there is not reason to keep the file on the computer.

How do I restore the proper behavior.

Version 98, among other changes, altered Always ask to Save in Settings > General > Files & Applications > Applications so you should check those settings and change them to what you want. There is a preference you can change to reverse the changes (as posted above) but that will only have a temporary effect. If version 100 is the first you have installed since the changes were made, that is why you are only seeing them now.

The only lasting changes you can make are to destination folders. More on that if you want it.

Link? Did you do this to fix it yet? Look at how it started at: about:config and go from there.

That restored the correct behavior, thank you very much.

Note that it isn't recommended to disable that improvements_to_download_panel pref as such a pref is only there for a short time to allow the devs to control the development of those improvements. It will be removed in the future leaving you with problem once again.

In Firefox 97 and 98 there have been changes to the download panel.

It is not an improvement if it breaks existing expected behavior.

Where do I report this bug.

The changes were deliberate. Two bug reports about specific points are to be fixed in version 101. I think you will be wasting your time but the site is https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/

You don't seem to understand the magnitude of this issue.

People like me have a reason to open a file from the internet without needing to save it first, it saves frustrations and headaches when it doesn't do this because then we have to take additional steps to ensure that the news is aired on time and that audio reports are delivered to our audience without delay.

It could mean the difference between life and death.
