Items in my Bookmarks toolbar (and the overflow bookmarks list) keep rearranging themselves. I put them back in order, then every time I open Firefox, they rearrange again. I've read through and tried everything suggested in the discussions and articles except the refresh, with I'd prefer not to do if it's not absolutely necessary. Nothing else suggested has worked. Any help will be appreciated. I believe this started after the last Firefox update. This is getting frustrating to the point I'm ready to stop using Firefox altogether. Thank you!

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

This can be caused by a problem with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite databases in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox or reboot and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

You lose the history when a new places.sqlite is created.

I tried everything in the note above. My bookmarks toolbar stayed the way I arranged everything for about a week, but this morning I opened Firefox and everything was rearranged again to alphabetical order. I give up. This is incredibly frustrating. I'm going too look around at other options like Edge or Chrome. I don't understand why this just started happening. I've been using Firefox for years. Thank you very much for all of your help, but I'm tired of fooling around with this.
