This happened overnight. Yesterday I had a multi-row toolbar in Firefox 66, and today there is nothing to be seen.

The bookmark toolbar had become set to not be displayed (not by me!) and when I selected the option to display it the space between the bottom of the address bar and the top of the contents window increases by 2mm, but nothing else happens. The toolbar is visible as an option from the bookmarks menu and contains all the expected bookmarks, but try as I might I cannot get back my now much-lamented multi-row display below the address bar where it should be.

What's gone wrong?

Did you verify that the Bookmarks Toolbar is still enabled and that the "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" is still present on the Bookmarks Toolbar?

The Bookmarks Toolbar disappearing can be caused by a problem with using "Restore Previous Session" as the startup setting, so if you restore the session automatically on the next start then try to disable this feature.

  • Options/Preferences -> General -> Startup

Once the Bookmarks Toolbar has reappeared then you can re-enable the "Restore Previous Session" startup setting and check if the Bookmarks Toolbar stays visible on next starts.

Well, it seems that the problem may not be a Firefox one, at least not directly. During the night my computer threw a 0x1A BSOD and when I opened Firefox subsequently and enabled the Bookmarks Toolbar, the multi-row toolbar appeared as if it had never been away. For the record, the Restore Previous Session option was already disabled when the problem started.
