moving computer file to firefox tab
I had a firefox brower open on one screen and my computer open on another screen. When moving my mouse, I accidentally clicked on a server drive (with very sensitive files) and dragged it into the firefox browser which created a new tab. Within the new tab, I could see all of the folders that exist on the server drive. I could also drill down into the folders until I got to actual files containing sensitive information.
Is there any way that the server drive and, consequently, the sensitive files got posted to the internet? Any way that those files are now accessible by someone from the outside?

HI, I would say no, not all. If you drag a movie into the browser or a music file or anything else it is not broadcasting. file:/// is local. Not going anywhere but in front of your eyes.
When you were on Google and dragged the server icon over and address went to local it is the same as dragging a PDF file into a open Google page, it is local.
You are safe. As to what your doing on a Server and not working on the server. It should be a dedicated system that is the server.
Anyway, you are fine. Do think about dedicated server with access points blocked that should not be open and is password protected with end point protection.

Are we talking Explorer Windows as that isn't the same as FF Browser Window. Well why don't you delete the the incorrect dragged file out of that directory. Since no one knows where the files were dragged to it most likely created a shortcut somewhere to your files. And of which that is going beyond FF end user help here. As no one can tell where what went no one say or confirm one way or another.
More info. I had google open on a firefox tab on one screen. On the other screen I had "my computer" open, showing all of the drives (local c:, various server drives). I accidentally clicked and dragged one of the servers and released it onto the other screen on the google page that was open.
A new firefox tab opened up and showed the drive path. I've recreated the event with a test folder and file. The firefox tab that popped up showed an address similar to "file:///C:/Users/xxxxxxxxxx/Desktop/test/.
I'm looking for confirmation that this is just a way to use firefox to browse files on your local computer. Not that the actual files were uploaded to the internet.

If you open a local folder or file or network drive in a Firefox tab then this content isn't exposed to the internet. In this case you merely use Firefox as a file browser. If this tab already has been opened to an internet page and has a back button then you should close the tab and not use the back button. You may want to clear the history as well.
