I have a Mac with MacOS Sierra 10.12.5 and at one point both Safari and Firefox were launching at startup. I updated to 10.12.5 and now Safari has stopped doing it but Firefox still launches on its own at startup. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. Its not in login items and its not selected to open at login in the dock. It doesn't occur in Safe mode so I know its isolated to Firefox. Any advice?

What Safe Mode do you mean? Is that Firefox Safe Mode or Mac Safe Mode?

If it is Mac Safe Mode then it is possible that another application tries to open the default browser. You can try to set another browser as the default browser to see if that makes the problem shift to that browser. If that works then you need to find out what application is causing this.
