I'm being asked to update to a version 49.xxx but i have 50.1.0 aleady. pop ups are annoying and confusing. I am a Mac user.

Make sure that the date/time in the OS is set correctly.
You can try to uninstall (trash) Firefox and reinstall Firefox in case there is a problem with file dates.
