Could you describe where it stops working? For example, I got results for puppy videos and it shows they are hosted on YouTube. I click one and a panel opens with the video embedded on the left and related searches on the right. The video uses the YouTube HTML5 player and auto plays.

How far does yours get?

If you check the YouTube HTML5 test page, do you have all blue boxes except the last one? If you have other red boxes, which ones are they?

https://www.youtube.com/html5

more options

It doesn't even play any video and it's not just youtube videos it can be videos from anywhere

more options

Okay, could you visit these two test pages and tell me the results:

(1) The YouTube HTML5 test page: do you have all blue boxes except the last one? If you have other red boxes, which ones are they?

https://www.youtube.com/html5

(2) H.264/MP4, WebM and OGG testers (scroll down past the text to where the players are supposed to appear):

http://www.quirksmode.org/html5/tests/video.html

Do any of those work?

Well when I do the youtube one the only red box is the last one and when I do the second one the red box under the firefox one is the very top one i don't know what that means

more options

On the second page, please ignore the text and scroll down to the players and see whether they work.

more options

Yeah all three players work on the second page

That's good news. So your Firefox is just allergic to videos embedded from YouTube (and other sites) into Bing results. For some strange reason.

As I click around, I'm noticing that Bing has a lot of different layouts for its video pages, do you get anything on any of them? For example:

Adele Hello page (linked from video home on Bing): http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=Hello%20Adele&FORM=VSTREQ

On the left, there is a large embed from YouTube that should play in Firefox's native HTML5 player. To the right are thumbnails that seem to use the Flash plugin for the preview.

Sample search results: http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=cats%20opening%20doors&qs=n&form=QBVR&pq=cats%20opening%20door&sc=2-17&sp=-1&sk=

These thumbnails use Flash to play a preview when you hover them. I don't know what all those parameters mean but if I try to remove various of them the previewing stops working.

If you try those two pages, what do you get?

more options

Both of those pages take me to the website but when I hover over one of the little videos it will act like it's loading like it will have that little circle thing but then it will go small again and then expand again and do the same thing over and over again

more options

Hmm, it shouldn't shrink while you are still hovering over it.

Do you have any add-ons which intercept video and might be interposing themselves in front of the little preview?

Could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? In Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

Nope tried to start it in safe mode and it did the same exact thing

Does Flash work on Adobe's test page:

https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html

If you just get a gray rectangle after clicking Check Now, use the plugin notification icon (in the address bar, looks like a dark gray Lego block) to allow Flash on the page.

One other thing I would suggest is to try disabling the protected mode feature of the Flash player plugin. That feature has security benefits, but seems to have serious compatibility issues on some systems. You can disable it using the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. On the right side, find "Shockwave Flash" and click the More link. Then uncheck the box for "Enable Adobe Flash protected mode" and see whether it helps.

Nope they are doing the same thing as before ever with all of that

Create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

That didn't help either it just keeps up with the same problems

Does Firefox use the Shockwave Flash plugin or the HTML5 media player to play the files?

The Flash player will give a Flash context menu if you right-click the player area.

more options

I have the shockwave player but I really don't know what you mean by that

more options

You can right-click the player area. That will open the right-click context menu. If the Flash player is used then you see the version number of the Shockwave Flash plugin listed among other choices. If the HTML5 media player is used then you can see menu items about this player or a default context menu.

Yeah it says x=shockwave flash
