Starting in Firefox version 149, the Split View feature lets you view two tabs side by side in the same Firefox window, so it is easier to compare information while shopping, planning trips or doing research.

Create a split view

You can create a split view from one tab or two selected tabs in the tab bar.

From one tab:

1. Right-clickRight-click (or hold down the Control key while you click) a tab.
2. Select Add Split View.
3. Your select tab opens on the left.
   • The right side of the split view will show you the list of your open tabs where you can choose which one to open.

From two selected tabs:

1. Select two tabs.
2. Right-clickRight-click (or hold down the Control key while you click) and select Open in Split View.

Add or change the second tab in the Split View

When you create split view from a single tab, you can add the second tab in the following ways:

• Select the right pane, then type a website address in the address bar.
• Use the list of open tabs in the right pane to pick an already open tab.

Resize the panes

Drag the vertical line between the two panes to resize the left and right panes.

Manage a split view

Split view has extra controls that you can access from:

• The address bar icon for a split view tab.
• The ⋮ icon in the split view footer.
• The tab right-clickright-click (or hold down the Control key while you click) menu.

Options include:

• Separate Tabs: Breaks up the split view and leaves both tabs open (this option is available in the tab right-clickright-click (or hold down the Control key while you click) menu).
• Reverse Tabs: Swaps the left and right panes.
• Close Both Tabs: Closes both tabs in that split view.

You can also dissolve a split view by closing either tab in the pair.

Split View and tab groups

Here is what to expect when you are creating split views from tabs that belong to a tab group:

• If the active tab is in a tab group, the split view is created within that group.
• If the active tab is not in a tab group, and the other tab is, the grouped tab is removed from its group and the split view is created where the ungrouped tab was.
• If both tabs you select are in different groups, the split view is created within the group where the active tab is.

Restore behavior and limitations

• You can create an unlimited number of split views.
• Split View currently supports only two tabs at a time.
• You cannot currently add pinned tabs to a split view.
• If you have the Open previous windows and tabs setting enabled (or when you reopen a recently closed window), split views are restored with the window.
• You cannot restore a split view by reopening closed tabs with Ctrl + Shift + TCommand + Shift + T.
• In split view, Find in Page (CtrlCommand+F) applies to the active pane only.
