On my old small laptop I wanted to increase interface font size. Erroneously thought that in layout.css.devPixelsPerPx I could insert the desired font size. I have inserted 12, now Thunderbird is unusable, some giant menu words appear but I cannot move anywhere. Can I I edit a configuration file manually to reset to a readable size? Which?

Made a mistake by changing user_pref("layout.css.devPixelsPerPx" from I think - 0.5 to +0.5 as incoming emails font was miniscule, but made nor difference... so thought it may be a font size, so changed to 12.... Now ginormous and unreadable. Searched through pages here for an answer and got to the prefs.js folder to find this file but it is not there.... I searched with notepad edit search for "layout" but no luck. Any ideas anyone? I tried adding the line user_pref("layout.css.devPixelsPerPx", "1.5"); whilst TB was closed and then opened TB but had made no difference.. :-( Any ideas anyone? TIA Graham

I've been using Thunderbird for a couple of years now and have always had it set up so that when I delete a message it gets marked as deleted, and then I manually compact the folder when ready.

A few months ago I started to notice that when deleting messages from my inbox they would be marked as read and then after a variable number of seconds they would be removed - as if the folder is auto-compacting itself. Strangely it only seems to be the inbox that is affected - all other folders are working as previously.

I don't remember changing any settings to have caused this change and I've tried unchecking the "Compact all folders..." option in the Disk Space settings but this hasn't made any difference.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

See the previous, now archive post about it.

If this option makes emails sent from Thunderbird to any other email client have arbitrary line breaks where the line changes in the view of the composer. Please explain to me like I am 5, why is this ON by default? I just spent hours wording and formatting a work email vital for my career just to find out it will most likely look like a poem to the person that reeds it. This mailnews.wraplength "feature" looks a lot like is there to signal to other non-Thunderbird users to use Thunderbird. I really really hope there is a good explanation for why `mailnews.wraplength` exists and is on by default.

Hi,

ChatGPT is telling me there's not a mute feature on inboxes for Thunderbird and this seems improbable.

Is this accurate? Thunderbird doesn't support muting inboxes?

You know, like all other messaging apps in the world since 2010?

Here's how I do it on Discord: 1. Right click the thing you want to mute 2. Click Mute

Is thunderbird even supported still or am I out of my mind to use it?

I've been plagued from the beginning by the similarity of the terms 'Junk' and 'Trash,' so I figured I'd rename the Junk folder 'Spam.' Right-clicking on the folder suggests this is possible, but when I type in 'Spam,' the folder simply disappears from the list. So I restart Thunderbird and 'Junk' is back on the list. Is it possible to rename this folder, and what is the procedure? Many thanks!

As described in [question] I am unable to install addons in Thunderbird: when attempting to install an addon, either via the in-app browser or via a file, a pop-up window appears for which "Add" and "Cancel" buttons do nothing (there is no way to move or remove the window without killing the process).

I am opening this question as this problem still persists over a year and many versions later.

I Imap to multiple email addresses-- three at IONOS. My junk settings say not to classify as junk if the sender is in my personal address book. But sometimes my provider (IONOS) reclassifies the message as junk. I added a filter to move a message to my inbox if it is from me. The problem is that draft messages started being moved to the inbox. I modified the filter to not move the message if it is from my address. The filter ignores the sent folder. Why can't it ignore the drafts folder as well?

I don't know what this message is for, nor do I care. It bothers me because I have a habit of hitting the enter button when doing any kind of search, even though its not necessary for quick filter. Every time this comes up and I hit the enter key it opens a new tab which is not what I want. Please tell me there is some kind of advanced configuration tweak that will either break or disable this unwanted feature.

Hey!

Is there a way to apply Message Filters only to a specific folder of the mailbox?

I have a filter that moves emails from my Gmail mailbox to a Local Folder. It works well.

However, if the same email gets downloaded to the "All Mail" folder of the same Gmail mailbox, it gets moved as a duplicate to the same Local Folder. (all Gmail mailboxes have this "All Mail" folder)

I have unsubscribed from the "All Mail" folder, as an attempt to resolve this issue.

However, if I go on the Gmail website, delete the email from "All Mail", it moves that email to the Trash. Then, once Thunderbird downloads that email in the Trash folder, the Message Filter applies, and the duplicate is moved again to the Local Folder.

--

I believe the only way to resolve this is if I could select "Inbox" specifically, for the Message Filter.

So my question is whether it's possible (maybe with an addon) to select which folder I want a specific Message Filter to apply to.

Thank you!

In general, I like Thunderbird, have used it for years. But if there's one thing that will make me abandon it it's that incoming links are not hyperlinks, they're just text. From what I've read, that's deliberate. If not, how do I make incoming links be links? I'm really ready to move on.

If I mark a message as Unread, it appears in the list of messages in boldface type. But I am finding it very hard to distinguish those in bold from other messages that have been read and are not bold. Is there anything in advanced settings that would allow me to change the fill colour in the listing box, or perhaps the colour of the type, in order to distinguish unread messages more visibly from those I have read? Thanks!
