Maybe it's this...

Firefox has some security restrictions on what pages in local folders can access when you use file:///. For example, if you have a page under root/pages/pagex.html, that page can access other content under root/pages/, but is restricted from accessing content under root/videos/ (or elsewhere on your media or system). This is described in more detail in this article: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Security.fileuri.strict_origin_polic....

If you want to test whether this is the issue, you can try switching the setting. Please note that this is only safe for content you trust.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the filter box, type or paste orig and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click security.fileuri.strict_origin_policy to flip its value from true to false.

I suggest leaving this tab open until you confirm whether it has any effect so you can switch it back if it doesn't make any difference.

jscher2000.. Thanks for the quick response. I have tried the security policy as you have suggested (security.fileuri.strict_origin_policy ) and restarted browser but unfortunately it did not work. It opens a new tab (which it should) but the url shows about:blank .... but when i copy file:///D:/folder/1.html to the FFox Url directlt it open the player and plays the file..

But not when i click on the main menu which is Main.html. Really strane any other suggestions would be great..

Thanks in advance.

@jscher2000.. Also to add to my previous postings.. When i put the mouse over the Index.html this is the URL link i get: (file:///Folder/1.html), but for some reason ite does not seem to open or point to my dvd drive. which should be (file:///D:/Folder/1.html)... which seems to be strange.. As the dvd works both on IE and chrome as i have tested.. But not with Fire fox. (and i only use Fire fox) Thats very strange for some reason it does not seem to point to the drive.. Any ideas.

thanks again

Hi cskcbs, you wrote:

I notice the slashes (/) are backslashes (\) in that path. Firefox really does not like backslashes in link URLs.

Hi thanks for the reply. Like i said on this dvd (root) 3 main files \index.html \Folder

and in the folder path (\Folder\1.html)

Index Code would call href="\folder\1.html"target="_blank">Introduction</a></p>

When i right click and open new on the Index.html and open 1.html it only opens with this path (file:///Folder/1.html) and seems to ignore the dirve D: and execute full path ((file:///D:/Folder/1.html), strange that it works both on Chrome and and IE

Just copied the Html files to local c:\ drive.. Chrome and IE still opens them fine.. But fire fox still opens a blank page.. Fire fox does not seem to recognise drive location eg: c:\, d:\, e:\ etc..

it opens url file:///folder /1.html

instead ((file:///D:/Folder/1.html), or ((file:///C:/Folder/1.html), links

I have added local link addon.. But still the same result.. any ideas how to get Fire fox to recognise drive location of the links

thanks

Depending on how your folders are structured:

  • index.html and 1.html are in the same folder
<p><a href="1.html" target="_blank">Introduction</a></p>
  • 1.html is in a subfolder relative to index.html
<p><a href="subfolder/1.html" target="_blank">Introduction</a></p>

Jscher2000 hi

The root of the DVd contains Index. html

and a subfolder named (\ folder\1.html)

(1.html is in a subfolder relative to index.html

<a href="subfolder/1.html" target="_blank">Introduction</a>

)

but for some reason Fire fox does not seem to recognise drive location eg: c:\, d:\, e:\ etc..to execute 1.html location. when i use the same programme in chrome it launches from ((file:///D:/Folder/1.html) but in fire fox it tries to launch from ((file:///Folder/1.html) and cannot see the drive location.. if this makes any sense.. Any ideas? would be great

thanks

Does my link code work in the copy you made on your C drive, changing "subfolder" to the correct name? Please note there's only one / and zero \ in my example. It's a relative link that should find subfolder in the same folder where you have index.html.

@jscher2000 Hey .. Yes it worked... Thank you so much for your help and effort.. \subfolder/1.html once the \ was removed form the start of the subfolder part of code.. it worked fine.... Thanks so much once again...
