I can't navigate beyond the Mozilla Firefox Start Page. It says that it's transferring data from ssl.gstatic.com, and I can't interact with the browser. What's going on?
For the first couple of days, 4.0 was working just fine, but now I can't navigate beyond the Mozilla Firefox Start Page. It says that it's transferring data from ssl.gstatic.com, and I can't interact with any of the links, textboxes, or buttons in the browser window. The green loading icon on the Start Page tab just keeps spinning. I've left it sitting for hours with no change. When I close the browser window, my Task Manager indicates that firefox.exe is stilll running, and it won't stop unless I End Task on it. Is anyone else having this issue? How can I fix it?

Seems to be related to Google: http://reverseinternet.com/domain/ssl.gstatic.com
What I suggest you do here is the following.
- In the location bar, type about:config and hit Enter.
- In the filter at the top, type: keyword.URL
- Double click it and remove whatever's in there. You'll see it revert to "Default" and "String".
- Go to File | Exit
- Restart Firefox, go to the site you want to set as your homepage.
- Go to Tools | Options | General.
- Make sure it says "Show My Homepage" in the first dropdown menu.
- Click the button called "Use Current Pages" to set the homepage to the one you have on the screen.
Before you posted your reply, I had uninstalled Firefox and installed Google Chrome. I kept Chrome for a while, but I didn't like it. Just the other day, I uninstalled Chrome and went back to Firefox, hopeful that reinstalling Firefox might help. The issue that I originally described still exists but in a different form. It occurs only when I use a search engine, whether it be Google, Yahoo!, or Bing. When I press Enter or click the Search button after typing out my search terms, that green loading icon will just spin indefinitely, and firefox.exe will continue running until I End Task. I tried the fix that you suggested, but it didn't help. Any other ideas?

Go to the keyword.URL field again and then right click it and choose "Modify". Then change it to http://www.google.com/search?q=
You can right click it here because it becomes a link and choose "Copy Link Location" from the menu. Then hit CTRL+V to paste it into the blank field. Saves you having to type it all.
Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
- "Clear the Cache": Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
- "Remove the Cookies" from sites causing problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
I don't know about .exe files because I'm a Mac running Firefox for Mac 8.0.1 BUT I sure as hell don't like all the pages and pages of scripting that gets pumped in my computer when I'm on certain sites. It's enough to make you want to throw up. I found this http://ssl.gstatic.com crap dutifully downloaded in the midst of a script because dnssearch.rr.com hijacks my Mac when I do a search. In so doing it puts this script on your browser: http://dnssearch.rr.com/js/v0Min.js . Once you get this , it writes other scripts that get other scripts, one of which is an innocent looking picture, but it has info about "me" in it. http://s0.2mdn.net/3163378/PID_1854274_1323690973000_970x250_UA_Masthead_Static.jpg. http://s0.2mdn.net itself isn't a website. It's a 1x1 pixel 'image'.. and the rest of the string is code that other scripts interpret.. The whole damned thing is sickening. I think all of them are in on it. s0.2mdn.net is a Microsoft site.
