i can't log into my Firefox account, i get "Cookies and local storage are required. Please enable cookies and local storage in your browser to access Firefox Accounts" but there's no 'third-party cookies' option available to me. Pages like https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-login-issues-on-websites-require-passwords say "Make sure Accept cookies from sites is check marked. Make sure Accept third party cookies is set to Always" but these options, available to me in Opera, don't appear in about:preferences in my Firefox.

I have NoScript and Self-Destructing Cookies but have enabled everything and set it to preserve cookies forever. I can log in here. I tried setting up a new firefox account and could verify it in PaleMoon, i'm willing to use that one. But i want to just log into addons.mozilla.org like i used to. I'm not keen to restart firefox with addons disabled, because i use a lot and most of them are 'legacy' and stop working if you disable them now.

I've noticed my about:preferences page was different from the one described by other people for some time but don't know why, perhaps one of my addons. Can addons hijack that? Thanks a lot, maia

Hi  !

Yes, Options/Preferences changed when Firefox 56 was released.

To find the settings for third-party cookies :

Type in the address bar 'about:preferences#privacy' (without the quotation marks)

At the top of that page you'll see : Browser Privacy Under 'History' choose 'Use custom settings for history' and you'll see the setting for third-party cookies there, just like in the 'old' Options/Preferences.

Make sure you allow cookies for the accounts.firefox.com domain if you aren't allowing cookies generally or use extensions that deal with cookies.

You can check if DOM Storage is enabled.

You can use the Storage Inspector to check other types of storage.

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History -> Show All History" or "View -> Sidebar -> History").

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks and history and cookies and passwords and cache and exceptions, so be cautious. If you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of involved files.

If you revisit a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

Thanks, it was the dom.storage.enabled setting, but i didn't know how to get into it, i just searched about:config for it using what you said and that worked. I hope i can sort out the settings and all soon, i've lost all my addons now and they've left their settings behind, unalterable, eg no images, so i'm going to have to use another browser until the addon environment recovers, as i use this one for banking and the cookie and tracking settings i had aren't possible now. I love firefox so much, it's sad, but there you are.
