This article explains how to configure your tab settings so that Firefox warns you before you close a window or quitexit the browser when multiple tabs are open, in Firefox version 94 and above.

Close tab warnings

Firefox can be set to warn you when you’re about to close a window or quitexit Firefox, when multiple tabs are open. You will then have to click a Close tabs button to confirm your action.

There are a few different ways to close a Firefox window or quitexit the browser. Starting in Firefox version 94, Firefox no longer warns you by default when you quitexit the browser or close a window using a menu, button, or three-key command. The close actions in these particular contexts were likely intentional and so the messages provided unnecessary and perhaps unwelcome interruption.

The only instance in which a close warning is on by default is for two-key quit shortcuts on macOS and Linux. The risk of accidental closure is higher in this context since the quit shortcut (⌘+Q) is adjacent to the switch-application shortcut (⌘+Tab).

Despite these changes to the default action, you will still have full control over the quitexit/close modal behavior. All warnings can be managed within Firefox Settings .
