[solved] Error: Access was denied while trying to open files in your profile directory.
Greetings everyone,
I use Linux Gentoo and Firefox 38.4.0.
When I start FF i get the following error prompt: "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible" When I try to start it with the terminal it prompts additionally in the terminal: "Error: Access was denied while trying to open files in your profile directory."
Therefore my problem is similar to these 2 posts which I found and read but didn't offer me a solution. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-run-firefox-when-profile-missing-inaccessible https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1096422
I deleted ~/.mozilla and did a reinstall, after trying to launch FF again .mozilla was created again. Inside was .firefox which should contain the file profiles.ini but it was empty.
When I run FF as root on the otherhand FF starts and a profiles.ini is created.
Permisions of the important folders:
drwx------ 3 bifi bifi 4096 Jan 7 12:46 .mozilla
drwx------ 2 bifi bifi 4096 Jan 7 12:46 firefox
drwx------ 4 root root 4096 Jan 7 12:34 .mozilla
drwx------ 2 root root 4096 Jan 7 12:34 extensions
The permissions look alright therefore i reckon it is somehow a FF issue,
FF ran without any problems until I updated some X11-related packages.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Bifi.
EDIT:
Solved by correcting my /etc/profile.d/xdg_cache_home.sh Read: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-7876816.html#7876816
