Every time there is an update,Firefox loads even slower. I am running XP Professional. How do I fix this?

The newest version, 3.6.6. loads painfully slow. It takes 2+ minutes. I am running XP Professional. Is this the right version of Firefox. I am getting to the point where I am considering converting back to MS. What can I do to fix this?
